Lightbulb Dial cluster questions?

Could any of you kindly fill me in on the various dial clusters there are on the 928 model. From looking through some of your threads with pics. there seem to be some which are not too different to the 944 and then others which have a different dial arrangement. Which is the most common?
Thanks in advance.

ps. would ask on the GB Porsche club forum but there is not a forum for the 928!!!! as far as I can see.

this is a 78 Euro, fairly standard on early models, US models have MPH instead of KM

Thanks for the pic Rixter. If any of you have taken them out, is the method of illumination the same as the 944 one in the pic. using mirrored opticals?

Rixter, was your cluster ever replaced? It doesn't look like an early 78 cluster. It looks like my 79 cluster (different speedo of course). The 78 clusters that I have seen look quite different than your pic. For example, the fuel and water temp indicators were aligned one above the other rather than side by side.

Rich.

Mine is also very different... gauges top & bottom as Richard says, plus there is a plethora of warning lights sprinkled throughout the gauge faces.

I've often wondered a LOT about this car, the mech helping me get her back together says the car (other than color and now interior) is the same as it came into the US in '85, rumor has it once belonging to an exec from VDO so who knows... I always appreciate responses good or bad... the dash is a good representation however, and all warning lights are in German

This is partly why I ask. As I resolved my dim illumintion problem on my 944s2, I now do these as a kit. On the 944 forum, quite a few guys ordered and fitted these. Weissach saw this!
If the set -up is the same then thats good to know. The other thing is same size etc.
The reason for these questions is that I need to buy a 928 dial cluster to do some r&d, but the only one I can find is quite pricey so wanting to know other than the clock differences would the method of illumination be the same, and don't want to waste time and money!
I just bought an early (pre-oval) 944 dial cluster and this doesn't really lend itself to an upgrade but as it is backlit it is probably fine anyway. Not like our perishing vac metalising.
I had a quick read on another thread about someone going to change there bulbs and polish the 'mirror'. I wouldn't recommend you do that as you will take the reflective surface off or at best dim it even more.
Thanks as always for your reponses.
Cheers

A couple of pics. One similar to Rixter, the other(maybe) what SharkSkin is referring to.
Question: Is it true to say that dial arrangement may of changed, but the dial cluster shape/size has remained the same?
Cheers

Just get rid of the 3 light 'channelizers' and get some high intensity LED's

Then get a hot glue gun and glue them in place.

Wire everything together and light 'em up. These LED's get very bright.
