Does anybody know what happened to the car in the movie? has it ever appeared on ebay or anyone on this board own it? does it have a salvage title from the lake scene, or was it just scrapped and vanished into movie history? I was just watching the movie and these questions just came to my mind and i just wondered whatever happened to it.

One of the ones in the movie had no powertrain... look again at the dock scene, paying special attention to the clearance between the wheels and wheelwells. I also read this somewhere. Apparently it was just a rolling shell... Then the other car was the one that they drove and dubbed in the Ferrari engine sounds... on most, but not all of the car scenes.

Most movie "stunt cars" get discarded , junked , parted out . Some of the more recent movie cars have been sold on E-Bay ...too fast too furious , Catch me if you can etc. . Typical car star will be 4 to 8 cars each used for different things only one will be a real hotrod others are quickie cheap copies . During the Dukes of Hazard TV series they went through about 300 , 1969 Dodge chargers( the General Lee ) and well over 1,000 police cars . After spending Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway at the 25 th anniversary Dukefest 2004 I heard a LOT about stunt cars , stunt men ....crazy bunch of fellows !! and yes Daisy ( Catherine Bach ) was there too . Enos , Roscoe and Cooter as well . And several thousand of their fans .

All the engine sounds on virtually all movie car scenes the engine sounds are dubbed often with a double / stand in for the car . About any scene where you are looking through the windshield at the actors the car is being towed by the camera truck that is the only way to keep the focus .

Search the archive for more articles on this. I think in a previous thread there were more differences listed between the "nice" car and the one that ran into the lake...

I think some nice children watched it as well .......... I saw thousands of people stand in lines and pay money for an autograph , a photo , a model car , T-shirts . After the stunt crew flew a General Lee about 190 feet off a ramp into a grass field many people were picking up bits and pieces as souvenirs . One fan paid $4,900 for the wrecked broken carcass . Some think of it as a morality play the good guys always won , the bad guys lost , and the police were incompetent ....Daisy Duke in cutoff jeans made it just a little bit bad . And no , I was not a FAN but was gathering background information for an article or two .

JB;

Always knew you had a dark (redneck) side, and now I understand why you know all this movie trivia....you were a stunt double for Harry in Harry and the Hendersons.

I've seen his picture in the 928 international catalogue as well . Nothing wrong with looking like a movie star!

I was just watching the DVD the other day.

I noticed a lot of cheap addons in the water car:

Crappy speaker in door, alarm keypad on console, some sort of box with ***** under the pod?

PorKen,

Perhaps you're not old enough to remember, but the average guy who could afford a Porsche had just about the same amount of technical knowledge then as now, which is to say, not a lot (present company excepted, naturally).

Anyway, there were then, just like now, guys who put lotsa mid/low-line flash in high-line cars. Those look like 'Pioneer' speakers. Eek. I saw more than a few of those in cars where the guys could have certainley afforded MB Quarts and ADS amps, but they still bought the crap `because it either didn't matter to them, or they didn't know any better.

The multi-button pad in the middle of the dash looks a lot like the keypad for a dealer-installed (non-factory) alarm system that was popular at the time - and was sold for quite a lot longer, there was one on my (then) 3-year old '87 944 Turbo, that was dealer installed when the PO bought it new. Though mine was a little more stealthy, it was close to the driver's right leg on the tunnel.

Looks kinda like a Clifford keypad like I had on my 911 back in the '80s.
