Default Engine detailing: how best to paint the -raised- letters on the intake manifold...?

Hi,

I'm painting the letters on my intake manifolds red, having painted the manifolds themselves silver. I got the recessed "Porsche" done nicely (I'm using one of those touch-up paints that come with a brush AND pen tip), using the pen to get nice sharp cut lines in the paint.

But how to paint the raised letters (V8 32V etc)? I can't do that with a pen. I don't want it looking sloppy. I also don't want to mask off the letters. Any ideas?

thanks

Thaddeus

Many of us have used the Testor's paint pens to paint our raised letters. The trick is getting them even. Unlike the recessed letters the raised letters don't have a defined edge since the tops are sort of convex. The secret is to take your time and be prepared to start a letter over again if you mess it up. If you've used the same type of paint on the valve covers that you're using on the letters you may have a problem with it coming off with your "mistakes".

If you:
1) take a digital picture of the letters to be painted
2) put them in illustrator or a vector art software program
3) trace vector lines over them, size them and send me the file via e-mail

I can cut a paint mask for you made from vinyl on my sign equipment, with removable adhesive. You cost will be $0.95 per letter or number. Then you just SPRAY the letters instead of tedious brush painting. Give them 3 light coats and they will look better than any brush job, without the hassle. You cannot re-use the mask so order two sets to do the complete job. My e-mail is warren_k@elite-signworks.com

If someone does the vectorizing, I will do theirs free of charge.

If your very particular you can also use a small rubber roller and use it as you would a regular paint roller but with thin coats on the roller. Mike.

I did my lettering before the powder coated intake was installed on the engine. Much easier than hanging over a fender. Take your time, it's really not that hard.

Thanks for the compliment Mike. I'm still looking for a couple grid girls to go with the car.

Are you back in God's country? Or just haven't psychologically accepted the change.....?
