Default Glue? For door panel moisture barrier

As part of my stereo and speaker R&R on the '91 I decided to replace the plastic window guides to quiet the rattlings of the driver's side door (and re-felt the rubber bumpers). In order to gain access to the guides I had to partially pull away a plastic moisture barrier that was glued to the inner door.

What kind of glue is that? Or what kind of glue should I use to re-glue the part that was pulled away from the door? It's not a 'high-stick' glue like 3M Super 77. It remains tacky but doesn't stick so hard that you destroy the plastic when you pull the plastic away.

Use Rubber Cement. Not instant drying, but sticks while wet and makes it removable later.

If you have holes or tears in the plastic barrier, they can be repaired with clear packing tape applied on the top.

Thanks.

And, I have no holes. The barrier is perfect.

Did You consider to seal that entire section with Dynamat Extreme? It does reduce road noise.

Worf/Dave - you're saying you replaced the WHITE window guides as well? The ones that are tied into the window regulator, etc? The ones that you have to remove the window to get at?

Do tell?

Thanks,
Brendan

Hi Mike,

After I have put both Dynamat sheets and Dynamat spray on the inside of my door panel (will have a lot of pictures later on my site that is still not quite there), the panel barely resonates even with a lot of base and volume. Before I could feel a lot of vibration even with that old ITT midrange and factory amp. I have components and schematic on my system on my site, but too many pictures of installation (http://members.***.net/my_1987s4_928_a/index1.html).
I love Your Miss August 2004 picture! It reminds me Monthy Pyton.

Your verb tense is wrong. Replacement is the plan. Replacement has not yet happened. However, I've been led to believe that removal of the window is not necessary. Legend (and searches) have it that you brace the window while it is in the door, then remove the bar to which the guides are attached. We shall see.

Hi Brendan,
I did go through that on mine. I removed windows to polish scratches out (I just wanted to keep the Sekurit glass - they do not make it anymore; sold licence to some Spanish glass company and that what You buy here as Sekurit). Yes, windows went out and it helps to use help not to damage anything when You try to pull the glass out. Also it takes two to properly set the bumpers and guides so that glass seats perfectly in the center of the upper seal groove. I did scrape some paint of my door when I did remove my window by myself.

No I hadn't actually. But, now that you mention it... might be a good thing.

I heard that stuff is as heavy as lead though. What say you?

What did you glue it down with?

Dave/Brendan,

You are right, guides may be removed without taking windows out (http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/te...ndow_frame.htm). I had mine removed for other reason.

Dynamat Extreme is the best sound absorbing material and is easy to apply (with use of any roller - no heat gun required). Yes it is heavy: 0.45lb./ft2 (2.20kg/m2); check it out at http://www.dynamat.com.

Do not buy it at local store. E-bay has almost half price offer: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW. I got it twice from them.

Hi Breandan,

I did not have first hand experience with Raamat. When I wanted to compare sound absorption parameters with Dynamat Extreme - I was unable to find them. In the typical discussion groups, people say that RAAMAT is Dynamat Extreme clone for half price. Everybody recommends it due to price difference. However, I have not found any scientific comparison between them yet.

Thanks Voy. I think the price difference is large enough that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.
