Hello All,
Just got back from the Bonneville 100. I don't have as much to
say as Tim, but it was a great event. The weather was just right,
all the people were wonderful, and we all got through safely.
Congratulations to Dave L. He finished first in the 125 class, with
a 124.978 mph avg. Bill B finished third in 140 class with a 140.081.
This time he even beat a few veteran racers. I finished 2nd in
155 class with a 155.047 mph average over the 100 mile course.
Tim entered the 125 class and ran a 123.867 average in his first event,
for a 5th place finish.
Hope to see some more of you at the Gamblers Run in August.

George:
OUTSTANDING RESULTS ALL-AROUND! You flew, figuratively if not literally. The SC definitely helped you get there.
Thanks for the news.

Awesome results! Damn, those are sooooo close to the target speeds, shows just how competitive and difficult it really gets in this kind of racing. Dave L. continues the tradition of 928 dominance in the 125 mph class...3 first place trophy's in the last 3 complete races (myself, Paul Mooradian, and Dave Lomas). I think Dave also won 2nd place at last years Bonneville 100. Congratualtions everyone.
George, we need supercharger performance update!

Looks like the boost was a wee bit high since you were over by .047 mph...

So how did the car run?? How was your air/fuel?
Congratulations to all the 928 drivers!

Sorry for the delayed response, but I had 387 emails and way too
many messages to deal with when I got back. Anyway, thanks for
the compliments and congrats. The car ran pretty well. It didn't
over heat, adding the 16" fan to the front seemed to take care of
most of the overheating issues. I'm still only making only 4 lbs boost,
so the hp figures are not where I'd like them to be. I was able to
get to my 168 mph tech limit fairly easily, but I did have trouble
holding it there on one long steep upgrade. There are two legs to
the rally, about 50 miles each. The South bound leg starts at 4,500
feet and goes up to 6,500 feet, so there's a lot of up hill sections.
I was 4 seconds behind schedule when I finished the south bound
leg, but was able to make it up on the north bound (downhill) leg.
Here's some photos from the event:

Here's Tim's, my, and Bill's 928s, with Tim and Bill in the background, at
the car show on Saturday, I think Dave slept in, because he never made it.

Here's Dave's (he did make it on time) and Tim's cars on the starting grid for
the 125 mph class.

Great job folks.
Rich- Maybe someday we can get a 928 contingent together for the targa? I wouldn't be able to swing it for a couple years do to school and family responsibilites but plan to run it someday.

Awsome job jorj.
Very good showing for the 928s
You mentioned that you are making only 4 psi. Did you drop the boost for the race? If so I would be interested in the theory behind it.

With an automatic, 4psi is about 338 rwhp, and 8psi is 418 rwhp; BIG difference!

The belt sure feels tight (I helped George install the kit). One other issue appears to be the air intake restriction. With the space limitations due to the very close radiator, the "manifold" on the SC seems to have pretty small cross-sectional area and limits the boost, as you heard from some of George's with and without dyno runs. I wasn't at the runs, and I'm not posiitive whether he removed the manifold or just the instake hose and filter. Radiator relocation would appear to be one answer although a PITB with all the fixed AC equipment that would have to move. I don't think George would want to give that up.
BTW. we saw a Z with a Vortex kit. Very nicely made and using a rather dainty toothed belt set up. Despite the professional kit designed specifically for the Z, the results were not too good. I heard they could not get much over 150 and had overheating problems. They also had a rather small K&N right on the SC inlet.
