O.K Guys what's a Cayenne engine worth, I just got a quote for a Cayenne S engine with 3 thousand miles on it. Anybody know of any other Cayenne engines around?

I think much much more than 7. I was just looking at a 2000 audi S4 that needed an engine and they wanted $4-6K for them used.

IMHO, I expect the Cayenne engine, from Porsche, to be about $25k and the turbo even more. Used, from a wreck, running, I bet for a n/a V8 they could fetch $15k. Turbo, I bet $20k or more.

I can understand how and why Porsche asks 928 GTS prices for Turbo S engine but can't get it why anyone would pay S4 money for used one. Who needs these anyway? If there are problems with cars original engine warranty should take care of it for so new models like Cayenne. If one manages to destroy engine in crash car is usually total write off and is not economically feasable for fixing. What keeps prices so high other than general Porsche parts pricing?

Shouldn't the question be how much for a Carerra GT v-10? I mean as long as were shooting for more HP why not go all the way with it. The engine management systems needed to run these engines would pribably be as cost prohibitive as the engine itself.

Shane true however, the theory is that the V10 will likely not fit, but a Porsche V8 is going to fit into the same spot that had previously been occupied by a Porsche V8. If you consider the V10's significantly different setup, it looks like no way. Of course the one thing Porsche have with the Cayenne that the 928 cannot offer, is height. So, enough room for a nice huge wet sump. That IMHO may mean the Cayenne engine will not fit the 928.

I've eyeballed just that thing here at our local dealer. No way Jose! You are not getting that motor in our car unless you want to do some crazy mid-engine cutting and welding. I'd bet the CGT powerplant would be an easier fit. Heck, it's a well designed motor with little more displacement than the GTS, could be worth a shot. I'd call the shop in San Diego that just ate the first CGT wreck, see if they want to deal!

I know such a transplant would give you great bragging rights, but why go through all the trouble and extra expense to have less output than you can have in a weekend after calling Tim Murphy or Andy?

I talked to a couple of people aqt the dealership and they say the Cayenne engine is just to big for the engine compartment of the 928. might have better luck with the v10 from porsche.

O.K enough suspense, well there was a good guess from Jay, the engine is available for $8500. I just emailed him back to see if the computors and air cond pump and power steer pump comes with it. My concerns about fitment relate to the sump depth which would obviously need to be changed.

But it is still a 90 degree V8 so there is a chance. The other advantages are the lighter weight, it is about 40 kilos lighter, that's a bag of cement you dont have to carry around with you anymore. Also variable valve timing and things like a closed deck and with the turbo engine you also get forged pistons. Lets no also forget about the dry sump system and hopefully it doesn't have the high RPM oiling issue.

You should be able to get a turbo engine for about $11 k and that in Gemballa hands produces upto 700 hp. I would have though it should be reliable too given the oiling and cooling system are quite andvanced.

Has anyone ever tried to engineer and build a mid engine 928? I mean just in case it doesnt fit in front. A mid engine 928 would be really cool.
