Default 1989 S4 Taped up ECU wiring query

I have a UK 928 S4 Auto that has the usual Ignition and Injection ECU's etc located in the passenger footwell and everything there looks normal and car runs just fine.

I was doing some work under the steering wheel yesterday and noticed another ECU bolted to the drivers side kick panel and the large cable/connector for that wasn't connected but cable tied and taped up out of the way. Is this normal and if so what is it there for? Photo attached for reference.

Cheers.

RDK(Tire pressure computer) and ABS harnesses. Who and why would someone do that?

Sounds as though someone got confused about disabling the RDK system. If that plug is disabled I would think the ABS system is goosed for starters.

The guy I bought it from replaced the standard wheels which had tyre pressure sensors fitted with wheels that don't have sensors...he wasn't that mechanically minded so sounds like didn't disable the RDK system correctly. There aren't any warning light on the dash concerning any ABS issues and I haven't 'tested' the ABS when driving it so need to look into this a bit further. Ideally I need ABS working and need to get the tyre pressure sensor de-activation done properly.

My guess is that there is a jumper under the tape for the TPS

When wheels without the std RDK sensors are fitted the dash panel illuminates an alarm on the digi dash annunciator for 89+ models and presumably some kind of alarm on pre-digi versions. The standard work around is to put a jumper between two specific terminals in the plug that basically sends a false message to the system that "all is well". As I think about it a bit more the connector is left unattached given it serves the RDK system only. Assuming that is the RDK plug then you should have no issues with the ABS system and no alarms.

It is so long since I played around with that part of the system I have trouble remembering what I did back around 2006 after acquiring my current 928. Hopefully some kind soul will confirm that for you. Kindly ignore my earlier comment about the ABS system not functioning.

Thank you for that...much appreciated, I'll look into it further.
