Question Metallic colored window tinting

Hi there. Does anyone have pictures they could post of a grey or silver 928 with metallic colored tinting and maybe with cup 1 wheels? I need to see what it would look like before I take the plunge .Sorry to be such a fussy bastard. Thankyou. Mike.

Unfortunately you can't see the tint too well in this pic. Is this good enough?

No metal flakes in the tint, though...

Thankyou for posting the picture Miss Nicole. That car is a beaut. The tint that I'm curious about is a mirror finish type. Thanks for helping. I did mentioned I was a fussy Bastage, but not ungrateful. Mike.

Mine has a dark bronze mirror finish, but depending on where the light comes from it looks different. If the car is in the dark garage, or the sun comes from a different angle, you cannot see anything inside the car.

One thing I'll say about mirror window tint... I've had it on a previous car... the tiniest speck of dust trapped under the film will show as a glaring bubble. Non-reflective tints are more forgiving. I highly recommend you take it to a pro, as it can be a real PITA and if it's not right, it's a whole lot easier to say "do it over" than it is to "do it over" yourself. Ask to look at previous work.

Getting the windows tinted on my car was a pure nightmare! The guys did so much damage to my car, it was unbelievable. I think there were eleven things wrong with the car when I got it back. I fixed some of the things myself, and had the dealer do the rest, except the scratches in the paint. The tinting shop paid me more than twice as much to get my car fixed. I'm sure you'll find the tread by doing a search here.

So chose your shop wisely - pictures of a few Mercedes, BMW and Lexus are not enough to qualify them. Ask them how they do the work, look at work in progress, and at results. Price is secondary, because the damage they can cause is so much higher than even the most expensive tinters would charge!

Make sure they are experienced with exotics, too!

And I agree with Dave: there are a few tiny pieces of dirt between tint and glass, and you can really see them very easily.

There are of course various schools of thought on this. Taking out any of the rears is a chore, and risks damage not only to the windows but to the car as part of the process. Putting in those quarter windows is a special thrill. Plus you get to put in new seals and trim molding.

The only window that a breeze to take in and out is the windscreen. And that's the glass you really don't want to tint.

My vote: Leave the glass in the car, find a shop that does high-end cars regularly, and let price be only the last driver in your decision. Consider checking with your local dealer to see who they use for their new-car tints. Porsche owners can be really picky about tint quality, even 911 and Boxster buyers. Follow their lead.

Hi Geoff: THey are 17" and one of the best enhancements you can make on a pre-GTS 928. Handling is much improved, without compromising ride very much.

Seconded... I have 17's with essentially identical vital statistics to what Nicole has. Handling is much crisper. A lot of it has to do with the sorry state of the 16s that I replaced, but not all of it.

Thanks for the info Nicole and Dave. I'm on the fence. My car has really nice chrome flats but I'd like to update but don't want to have any offset issues. Haven't quite talked myself into the big buck Kinesis wheels that I really want yet. Both of your cars look awesome.

Regards,

Geoff

If I could only remember it all... Here is a taste of the stuff:

- Instrument cluster not working when I picked up the car - fuse blown
- Battery connector cover in engine compartment not mounted right - turns out they had run down the battery and jump started the car
- Big black foot print on back of drivers seat
- scratches on B pillar and hatch, near the spoiler
- quarter window trim warped and melted in one spot
- seals of door windows were no longer in that little channel in the trim. As a result, the windows did not close properly and there was wind noise
- scrateches in the leather of the interior panels
- door panel inserts lose
- door window surround panel broken under the leather (still is)
- ...

Is that enough? It sure made my blood boil...
