missing felt window guides- help please
Hello, I have removed my driver side (U.S. car) window to have the tint repaired and noticed two areas on the inside of the door that look like the felt window guides would mount to but nothing is there:
Is this where they are supposed to mount? Thanks, Joel

Hi Joel,
You are correct. There is 2 felt guide units, each with 2 felt pads.
Have you looked to the bottom inside of the door? Maybe the PO left them there for you
I would not put the new tinted glass back in untill you get the guides back for fear of scrathing the tint film.

That sounds like good advice. A body shop replaced the door and transfered the window motor and regulator over but from the two doors (new and old) somehow they missed the felt pads so now it makes sense why I have to remove this window and have the tint repaired. Thanks Mike! Joel

Hi Joel,
I don't think those felt pads are too expensive. When you install them don't tighten them until you get the window set up. They do require adjustment so the window will not rattle when down, and the door is closed.
Make sure you get the proper allen head bolts to mount them, they are tightened with an allen key from above.
BTW, nice post on the seat switch repair
Cheers,
Mike

If you can't find new felt guides, buy used ones and go to your local fabric store. They sell felt sheets with adhesive backing. I cut this to size and stuck it over my old felts. It's been a couple years now and they've held up fine.

The new felt guides are usually very tight, so you might have to help the motor to pull the window up the first time, and leave it up for a few days before starting to operate it. That's how it was when I replaced the pads. Unfortunately, if any dust gets caught in these guides, it is pressed against the tint and really, really scratches it. It's almost like you can't win...
Since you will have to take the door panels off anyway, check, if the window has a lot of play. If it does, you might also want to replace the whitie plastic guides that guide the window up and down the rail.

Thanks everyone for the help. Mark (928intl) has some used guides at a good price and tells me that he can find the washers and bolt to go with them. The window quit working a while back and I needed to have the tint repaired anyway so that is what started this whole mess. I removed the window to have the tint repaired and to test the motor. I removed the motor and connected it directly to a battery and it did nothing. This is really turning into a job! Again, thanks for being the wonderful online community that you are! Joel
