And it's true: parts from the big 3 are pretty inexpensive
When i did the generalization, it did not include the NSX (I love them), it was mostly for certain civics, hyundais and kias, including some corollas and matrixes, and absolutely including the mitsus (except the 3000GT VR4, nice machine, not so nice tranny)

My wife used to drive a civic, it was pretty quick, actually. It didn't fell apart @ 90 MPH, it did (the engine cracked) @ 45, on the street, after hitting ~110 MPH in a rarely empty freeway.
I'm not so worng about the cars blowing up, exploding, reventandose (spanish for blowing up)...

The 928 feels even more solid when you are over 100!!!

I have always thought the 928 felt as good at 120 as it does at 80. At 150 the big difference is the scenery going by a LOT faster. I have had all 3 of my 928s to 150 and the Red GT to 158

The Hyundai Tiburon V-6, 2.7L makes 170 HP (same engine as Santa Fe and Sonata). 6 speed trans has good TQ but falls flat at speed.
NOX kits bump the HP over 200 but pistons are too thin for and real power.
Suspension is a spin off of the Elantra.
Eating a Tiburon is really no challenge, bait food...........

hey my stock 99 camry has no problem getting up to 130. it was surprisingly stable too.

BTW: the camry is about the best toyota ever, very stable, comfy, pretty fast, silent cabin, etc...just don't crash it, the body is not as strong as a shark...

Let's be realistic. To get a camry up to 120 takes some effort and some time. 120mph is fast. Very fast. And personally, I do not feel comfortable doing 120mph in a car whose tyres are rated only to 106mph, or whose design was for city and freeway speeds around a max of 90mph. Try for instance, getting her up to 120mph, and then jamming the brakes, or swerving sharply to the next lane, as if avoiding an obstacle. In the Porsche, it is not a problem. In the Camry/Honda/Etc Etc ..... ? Your life may be at risk.

Heinrich you are right on with the handling comments. My wife's old Camry (a '98) was a great town car but at the upper end it left a lot to be desired. In the type of manever you described it would be quite scary. I had my braking markers in my head adjusted to my then daily driver 911 Carrera and used her car to go to work one day. We live off of a long stretch of empty highway that I use as my high speed proving grounds. Anyway, I was zipping along at 100ish+ and waited for my usual braking point to make the 90 degree left hander. Oh my! the brakes faded almost instantly and I did not scrub enough speed to make the turn. Porsche brakes. You gotta love em!!

Hi. I know the Tiburon is no match for my car. That was not my only concern. What I was concerned about was the mindset of that cartlidge head riding my butt at speed, wanting to play. What is he thinking 944? It seems that this car is an unknown to the car crazies as well. Yesturday at the 7/11,I pulled up next to a senior nosepicker who was driving a new ford mustang gt. He say's to me"your car sounds wierd, sounds like a 350". I told him the particulars and his jaw dropped. It has happened many times before where fellas thought I was sitting on a 4 banger. Now what I need are some really big stickers that say V8 and not affiliated with juice! Mike.

True. No-one knows what is under the hood. Outside the US, when you see a BMW or Mercedes approaching (Audi too these days) you move over. And if you see a Porsche in your rearview mirror, you move over WITH URGENCY.

In the US, when you see a vehicle, you treat it the same as you treat all other vehicles. Truck, van, car, sportscar ... no matter, because you know that YOU, in YOUR vehicle, are the only one that matters on the road. YOU can beat others on the road, and what is this weird-looking funky thing in front of or behind or beside you, bring it on, YOU are the owner of the road, and THEY need to get the hell out of your way. Again ... what you drive, has no bearing on it. Even semis adhere to these rules.

it has good tires that can handle the speed but you are definitely right about the rest. i had no problem staying in my lane but theres no way in hell i would try slamming on the brakes or making sharp moves with the steering wheel. i wouldnt have even thought of going that fast if the highway i was on didnt go in a straight line for 70+ miles with a clear view of whats ahead.

Be careful fellow sharksters. I completely agree on the insignificance of owning 400hp rice machines, however don't be fooled. A wise man once said "never under estimate your opponent". If you could see the trap speeds on these things you would notice that most of them are not very high for the ETs which means it is all 0-80mph after that a lot of them die. If your talking stoplight to stoplight though, that's what you want. If you want to tangle with one of these guys you need to do it the water (120+)

Saw something funny yesterday...A state trooper giving tickets to 3 members of the "fast and furious": each was a tricked out japanese something or other in red, yellow and lime green. Wing, full body kit, decals etc. I was laughing pretty hard but still managed to honk as I went by.

Worf would say "bright colored chum....sharkfood!"

p.s. shouldn't those drivers be wearing clown outfits with the red nose, make-up, and funny shoes to match the ensemble?
