Default Turn Signals not canceling

Good day all,

I have an 89 S4 AT that is not canceling the turn signals in either direction. I checked the archives and tried the remedies suggested there. I removed the steering wheel and the controls. When you depress the signal, the little white finger protrudes as it should, but no amount of pressing on it will return the signal. The little white finger seems to be disconnected or not connecting. Having the unit out, I am realizing that it is not serviceable. Is there anything that I am missing - i.e. is there a way to open that unit up? Or am I doomed to finding a replacement? Thank you for your thoughts.

Greg

Greg....I have an eighty four and I replaced the white lever you mention. It is not a simple job as the unit has to be taken apart. That means the rivets that hold it together need to be drilled out etc.....this is just my opinion but if it comes to doing that , replace the whole thing with another one new or used. That unit has your head light dimmer and signals and the cruise control switches in it as well as small springs and such. be very careful....
Goodluck as I was when I repaired mine.............Bill

Greg,
Had to replace the whole unit. I think it was about $200.
Works perfectly now!!
Good luck,
Roger

You may want to try this before spending $200

Thanks all,

Greg, thanks for the link. I have given that trick a try, but to no avail.
Bill, you are a brave man - taking that thing apart. I suppose I have nothing to lose in trying if it is hooped anyways. I guess I'll go on the hunt for a replacement.

Thanks for all of the thoughts.
regards,

Greg
