Tim, it's "Tiburon" ..... that means shark. Anyway nothing new there, people have for decades put aftermarket add-ons into pieces of **** cars, and has that ever made me want one?

Being ripped a new one by that one unique poc that also happens to have nitrous .... no shame in that. Louie Ott calls Subies, "phone booths" because of their drop-dead gorgeous looks. I tend to agree. I can sit here all day and quote 1000 horses made by that Pinto with the 454 and the blower. Sure. And that Pinto could tear my Porsche up on the road. Do I have pintos envy?

Not me

I respect my Porsche. And I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Hahah I think I've just coined a new term for owning a Porsche but fearing the Pinto.

Pintos Envy.

Cool

This ain't a put down and don't sweat the ricers'.
FWIW
If Yugo made the 928 with a 150 HP engine, and king pins I'd still own one!
The fact that Porsche is stamped all over it helps along with a fairly strong engine, fab. 3spd Auto, and great handling is all a plus.
There are a lot of American muscle car owners out there that hold us in contempt for drivin' around in faggy, rich boy, Euro trash.
Arrogance will get you every time... so... get familiar with the rest of the auto and aftermarket industry, lot of neat stuff out there and wether it's looks, HP, clubin', talk isn't going to get the job done.
Around here I always keep an eye out for some Japenese steel venting,
or. purging NOS. Tire sizes, sound , suspension set are give-aways.
Personally, I go cruising during the evening in the F 150 to see where the Asian steel and pick-up crowds are hanging out and to see what thay have.
Then there's the stang/camaro/firebird crowd.
There is a lot of darn near empty road around here and the kids try to straddle county lines to make it a jurisdiction hassle for the fuzz .
Hmmm, we used to do that 30 years ago.
Virtually, all of these guy's will show you what they have, are proud of their cars and tend to -for the most part- know their limits.
Sound familiar?
FOR THE RECORD MOST OF US COULDN'T AFFORD THE STEREO'S THEY HAVE INSTALLED LET ALONE THE PERFORMANCE UPGRADES.
HELL I'M GLAD THE LITTLE BASTAGES HAVEN'T DISCOVERED HOW INEXPENSIVE THE 928'S ARE OR THEY'D BE HARD TO FIND AND HIGHLY MODIFIED BY NOW.
We will all be whining when the ricers branch off into 911 land.
Bottom line ...know your limits, don't race every soccer mom who dares to pass the might 928, and if it gets to bad... talk to Andy about SC'ing your sHARk.

The bottom line is there will always be faster cars. But when you put the total package together there won't be many better the 928. Calling eveyone elses car a POS says more about the individual doing the name calling than than someone in a "ricer". Interestingly I have seen more middle aged people recently hopping up ricers, it just doesn't look right...

hey, I had a mini cooper come up on me on the highway recently, and at 85 mph I floored it. I did let him get close enough to see that it was a 928. He had the cool blue headlights, but they got small and disappeared. I think if your 928 is running well, and you are not drag racing from a stoplight, you should "represent" once in a while.
Pretty funny.

Hey Fellas,
Good thread. Thanks for your thoughs John, Jim, Carl, Mike, and Heinrich.
Late here and I'm tired so excuse me if this is rambling or circular.

I grew up tinkering with early to mid-70s Detroit muscle...had a blast learning how to drive in and wrench on these cars. Today's "ricer's" are the modern equivalent of yesteryear's "muscle car" crowd...I guess...it's good that the cars are typically more reliable, safer, and often handle better even in stock form. Hell, my old 1985 Honda Accord would run circles around my old 72 Olds Cutlass Supreme on the twisties...guaranteed.

I guess I'm getting old I have no tolerance for all of the bling and no substance. A car makes lots of noice and has NO substance (4-cylinder car with coffee can muffler) makes me see red. Now, I know the film "The Fast and The Furious" is reflective of the of ricer's who really do know how to get these Asian cars moving with s/c kits, NOS, etc but I just can't get too excited about it. There's no soul in these cars...IMHO. Not so with some of the old Detroit muscle and European marques.

Each to his/her own...I guess. My plea is just to be left alone on the roadways and not to have my life or the lives of my loved one's placed at risk by some imbecile behind the wheel (young or old). Most of the time down here in FL it is NOT the young drivers I have to worry about but some poor senior citizen afflicted with presbycusis, myopia, and an impaired reaction time who is driving too slowly, pulls out in front of me, cuts me off in traffic, tailgates the shiite out of me or misjudges distances. Between the 50,000 Univ of Florida kidz and the seniors, this is one dangerous place to drive. OK, I'm on my soapbox, I know

So, I'll end what has become a tirade...thanks for suffering me....I'll go to sleep now.

Hi. Mr.tuk_928 wrote "todays ricers are yesturyears muscle car crowd". I have never thought of it that way. When I was a nose picker,I remember Mopar,Chevelle and what not. I would look and think those guys are special ,almost deserve the same respect as test pilots or aircraft designers on the cutting edge. ..... I just might have to revert back to my childhood emotions and give these rickshaw customizers some respect ! MR.TUK_928 YOU HAVE CONFUSED ME!!! Mike.

Mike,
Sorry man...I've said enough on this thread. I think I meant to say something to the effect that...today's "ricer's" are the modern equivalent of yesteryear's "muscle car" crowd. The young folks coming up don't mess much with GM and Ford cars from the 50-70s...at least where I've lived (NY, VT, GA, FL) over the past 15 years. Instead, they have Asian makes to monkey around with. Does this help...I'm really sleepy - logic out the window at this hour ?
