From what I can gather the "Guards Red" paint code is 84A, I checked on Eastwood's site for OEM colors and that only have INDISCHROT 80K. I asked if they can produce the 84A and they are coming back and telling me it's the same at the 80K. Also suggested I get a pint to test. At $80 that's not really an option.
I don't think they are the same color, but I am certainly no expert when it comes this this, but what do I know
Any thoughts on this?
Unfortunately the actual paint code sticker on my car is long gone.
as far as the code didn't they do an environmental change from 1 stage to 2 stage or water based something or other - that could explain code - the Australian site always had paint info
I was going to suggest if a total repaint get a better red. Guards is a fadey shade. I have looked at a lot of reds and some obscure ferrari reds are nice but probably undoable
@tv : There a couple of Mazdas I drive by on the way home from work in Soul Red. The positioning of the driveway is such that at that time they are just basking in the sun and it's like they're glowing. The owners seem to recognize this and keep the cars really, really clean.
From what I've read, it's a multi step paint process for that color and it seemed amazing to me that Mazda could make it work as a stock option. It's really lovely.
I get that impression too. About 1 month ago I was walking down the main street where I live (nice downtown) and there was a mazda parked there in this red around dusk. It looked incredible.
Dark but DEEP red, I was leaning towards a Kandy paint, but now thinking this red w/o the rubstrips and my flat black wheels would look awesome
I would take them up on the suggestion about having a pint for testing, you can ask them to make a spray-out card from the pint, and you can take the car out in the sun (or clouds) and reality test the color match against the card. $80 is cheap insurance to make sure the color match is close to what's on the rest of the car.
I just picked up some Guards/Indian red. Paint codes L027 and LM3A come up with the same mix.
I always thought that Mazda color would be perfect. Here are some pics of a 928 with that Mazda color. It looks good but I don’t think I like it as much as I thought I would.
Pictures don't always reflect reality. That actually looks more LIPSTICKY than the mazda red I have seen in person.
Are you sure which shade that is cuz according to the story at mazda I linked above this shade is only like 5 years old;
"Takuminuriis a Mazda-exclusive approach to advanced paint technology, starting with the original Soul Red Metallic paint color in 2012, perfected with Machine Gray in 2016 and further refined into a color that uses the learnings from both to stand among the most drool-worthy colors out there."

There are actually two versions of Soul Red.
The original debuted in 2013 and was called Soul Red Metallic and then in 2018 they came out with Soul Red Crystal Metallic which is the one you linked to. Both are very beautiful shades of red and that color alone has made me consider buying a Mazda for my daily driver.

Not sure of anything. This was for sale a few years ago in OZ. When I reached out to the guy he said he painted it the Mazda crystal red metallic. I have no idea which version.
