Default What's up with my analog clock

I've never had any issues with my car's (1993 GTS) analog clock in my 14 years of ownership. Now, it is acting crazy!! After installing a new battery, I reset the clock as I always using the tip of the ball point pen I use to log my fuel consumption. At first the clock advanced as always - slow at first and then speeding up (a feature I really like) until I approached the set time. I released the tip of the ball point pen from the setting ahead detente but the clock continued advancing! So, I stuck the ball point pen tip into the reverse detente and the clock spun around in reverse without stopping despite not having the pen tip inserted. I continued on a few times - backward and forward - but the clock has a mind of its own and would spin randomly forward and backward and stopping occasionally. Sprayed contact cleaner thinking that might help but no success.

Any suggestions?

All the best,

Joe

it sounds like you might have fat fingered your clock ,
and now the micro switch is possibly stuck

Thanks Merlin,
It's definitely related to the time adjustment mechanism - a lever switch that reverses the direction and speed of the clock. But how does one "fix" that? I've tried WD-40's contact cleaner sprayed into the adjustment detentes and toggled + and - with no success. The clock makes several complete rotations and then stops. Same thing in either direction. Will now try Deoxit and see if anyone has an analog clock for sale.

All the best.

Joe

It might require taking it apart to replace the micro switch or un jamb it

If you want to take it apart, well open it, here's a thread on this:

Thanks Bertrand! This is most appreciated. Looking at the pictures and the discussion, I might just be better off replacing the faulty clock with a new one. I can replace capacitors but micro switch surgery is above my pay grade.
I'm selling my GTS after 17 years of ownership and want the new owner to at least know what time it is.

All the best,

Joe

I have an analog clock with a cracked cover. I replaced it with a new clock and I will sell this analog clock for the princely sum of $400 plus shipping.

I think I swapped the covers making this a brand new clock. Note the clock hands are perfect. No sun damage.
