Need help verifying fuel line location
I am having a problem with #3 cylinder spark plug wire. It is very close to fuel lines crossing the cam cover. Close enough to the point the connector does not seat onto the spark plug correctly unless it is turned sideways. Causing the wire to be stretched tight - no slack.
My arrangement is the lines are held in place with this clamp in the lower position. Everything appears to be aligned properly (I.e., fuel line from chassis and fuel lines to damper, etc...).
Does anyone have a picture of the fuel lines where they mount to the clip on the top of the 4.5L motor? It's held by a 10mm nut & bolt (yes, the infamous missing size socket). The clamp holding the lines is connected to and held in place by a bent bracket attached to the head.
Thanks in advance.

try swapping the #3 wire with the #7 or #8 wire

You have a picture of what you're talking about?

Ed - for quick reference, go to the BaT website and pull up all of the 1981 cars, and look through engine bay pictures to see if you can find what you are looking for. That site is a treasure trove of pictorial history.

Ah, thanks. As Stan says, see if you have a longer wire currently connected to a different cylinder where you can swap them. Should go without saying you need to swap the complete wires from the distributor port to the plug, not just the plug ends as that will screw up the firing order.

approx. 635 (25 inches) from connector to connector. Wire is approx 546mm (21.5 inches)
I measured the #3 wire. From end to end (connector to connector) is ~635mm (25 in). Of course, the #4 wire is long enough but the Beru set only has one that length.
BaT site is a great suggestion. Thanks.

Ed, I have a similar issue on my 1980 car. There is enough length in the #3 wire, barely, but I think it should have been manufactured a bit longer.
I have the plug end rotated towards the throttle body, under and behind the fuel lines, and the distributor end isn't long enough to follow the smooth routing of the other wires nearby.

A #4 wire solves this issue but will have excess length.

well also the wire should be able to run over top of the fuel lines,
remove the wire then use a thin piece of wood and a mallet to tap the fuel lines down,
they should move.
be careful with this.
Then rout the plug wire so its pointing to the front and crosses over the metal lines.
