Read through the archives and everywhere else I can think of and am looking for some suggestions.
I have an 83 928S with Manual Transmission. Recently the temp gauge has been running towards the top mark. This is mostly during traffic, but does occur when under load (Going up hills). I have recently replaced the water pump, thermostat, Misc hoses, and the plastic side tank on the radiator, radiator coolant sensor, and lastly radiator cap. Car is not losing fluid either.
I noticed that the electric fan appeared to not be functioning. I shorted the leads from the radiator coolant sensor and the fan ran. I also shorted the leads at the heater/dryer and the fan ran. (Fan is also not running when I run the AC).
The only items not replaced are the temp sensors.
Any suggestions as where to look next.
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck, if you can, measure actual coolant temp at the top hose near the block. Chances are it's never getting hot enough to kick the fan on. I tested with a piece of cardboard over the radiator and a thermocouple in the coolant. When I forced the car to get hot, the fan kicked on within a couple of degrees of the rated 95°C. This corresponded to having the right edge of the dash gauge needle about even with the left edge of the red zone on the gauge. Turns out my car never gets hot enough to need the electric fan.
You can get the numbers off of the switch and determine its rating from there.
