I'm not sure exactly what the digital dash readout consists of on the later cars, but it looks like it might be reading 12mph standing still (I'm assuming he's not rolling while shooting pics)........ either that or it should say "12 MPG" which would seem a little low and in that case maybe we should warn him to fill up soon as he only has 1/3 tank left

Maybe I missed something and/or I'm really bored

Can't really see anything that can't be rationally explained. Nice car except for the phone mount screwed into the center column......I freakin' hate that.......

engine is cold, oil pressure is at 5 bar engine is at idle. About correct for a car with 30k miles on it. how you average 12 mph over a 36 mile distance is that the car sits at idle for a long time........

I don't see anything wrong with that picture.

The idle oil pressure and volts are fine for a 928 that's been running for a few minutes.
The analog speed-o is at zero.
The idle speed is right-about where it should be.
The average miles-per-hour is reading 12. The trip computer does not reset itself when you reset one of the trip odos. I have not yet figured out exactly how the trip computer does its math. I *think* it is based upon the previous x,xxx miles and/or yyy hours of driving. (The owner's manual says something about that - but its been 6 years since I read that part.) It doesn't forget when you disconnect the battery.

On the other hand, not in the picture:

That's really low mileage for a 10-year old car. I'll bet its a leaking (or about the leak) ship. Oil pan gasket. Tensioner gasket. Oil filler neck.

Otherwise - looks pretty clean inside and out.

Looks all normal for a car that's running at idle and has not warmed up, yet. What are we supposed to see?

I love the car, except the manual transmission and the phone mount at the console. Low mileage black on classic grey supple leather without side moldings - how much better can it get?

I'll disagree with that. Have owned two *very* low mileage 928's within the last few years (both older then this GTS).........and put around 30k miles on one and 10k on the other. They both started out dry as a bone and remained that way.

I'm a firm believer that miles and high temps are the biggest causes of leaks with age running a distant third.

Interesting. Do you live in a climate without large seasonal temperature swings? Up here in the Northeast US I've not seen a 928 without a leaky oil pan. (Not saying that leakless oil pans on 928s don't exist up here - just that of the couple-dozen or so that I've looked at all had leaky pans or had had a leaky pan re-gasketed.) Perhaps it has less to do with age or mileage and more to do with ambient temperature cycling?

I got my '91 with 28k on the odo and a leaky oil pan. It has spent all of its time in Yankee Land. I got my '89 locally with 119k and a leaky oil pan.

Ok, guys, I'll take your word for it on the oil pressure - but the engine is not cold. It maybe not quite up to operating temperature but the temp guage is certainly well into the middle. The pressure just seemed a little high to me. And yeah, averaging 12 MPH seemed a little low to me for a car like the GTS - but stopped in traffic would do it.

Don't forget that the 928 holds 8 quarts or so of oil..takes a little while for it to heat up the oil..even after the water temperature has reached normal.

After startup..my 89 GT holds higher oil pressure till I get it on the hwy to fully "heat up" the oil...

It sure is a nice looking GTS..even with all that extra weight in airbags.. hee hee. :-)

You could be on to something Dave. Both of my low mileage cars (both in the low 20k mile range) were from pretty mild climates.....Tenn & Kentucky (I guess they are mild, never lived in either). My first 928 ('87, 111k miles) was from Texas and leaked like a sieve........lots of heat and miles. I guess climate could also play a big role in the equation.......guess I got lucky with my last two.

You have to remember that this car has the later gauge cluster and reads differently then your '87s does. When warmed up the needle will be near the white line to the right......this is the 210 degree mark. A little before it will be around 190 degrees......just right IMO. Where the temp needle is now it is not nearly warmed up.

I thought the little aliens with yellow eyebrows on the speedometer were a little odd, but otherwise it ;ooks normal to me :P
