Shipping Car from Germany
Hi everyone,
I just bought a 95 GTS 5-Speed in Germany and need to ship it. Does anyone know of a reputable company that can do the logistics to pickup from the dealer and ship to me and take care of the shipping documents? Thanks

I don't know about shipping to KSA, but we just moved back to Germany a couple months ago (from Texas) and used Trans Global (https://tgal.us/) to ship 2 cars. No issues at all and the open communications was good. Both cars arrived on time with no damage at all. As Darklands wrote - it will likely leave from Bremerhaven. They send updates so you can track the ship, but if I had to do it all over again I would have dropped an AirTag in the car too. I'd check with your insurance company before shipping - they offer a maratime insurance while in transit and it's something to consider for peace of mind.
Congrats on the new ride!

I’ve also used Trans-Global successfully.

Khalid,
Not wishing to be a "doom and gloom" merchant but have you checked that the authorities will let you import this new deiightful acquisition? I ask because up until a few years ago we could import vehicles into Oman no problem but suddenly the Government introduced legistation forbidding such once the vehicle in question has reached 5 years of age. Of course KSA is not Oman but experience suggests that such practices are often coordinated amongst GCC countries so would politely suggest you check to ensure there is no such legislation. The classic car community here is small but steadily growing and this regulation sent shock waves through the system. There is a push to permit exemption for classic cars but no idea if it has gained any momentum here.
With respect to shipping assuming they can and will accept such, there are a number of lines that ship from the Baltic coastline with both RoRo and containers. RoRo is cheaper, containers are more secure from a damage perspective. Invariably you will have to go through an agent. You have the luxury of two options in that you can enter KSA through either Jeddah or [presumably] Dhahran/Al Khobar- the latter being closer to Riyadh but stil needing trans shipment unless you intend to drive from the port of entry. Needless to say a voyage to the Gulf takes a couple of days longer or whatever but it is about 500km closer to Riyadh.
Alternatively you could consider driving it back via the Golan Heights!

Heyy buddy Fred,
Yes the laws were changed in here allowing only 5 year old cars (with additional rules like no fleet cars, no salvage etc..). However there is an exemption for classics which requires 30 years. The GTS does not fall in that. The Saudi custom allows a waiver which is also fee calculated (SAR 20K minimum depending on engine, year, etc…) which is mostly to deter import of invaluable garbage (and I totally agree with their perspective). I spoke with my customs agent and he said no issues it can come in (with additional customs fees)… and since the car is a rarity, it is still fiscally viable.
No driving through Golan buddy hahahah… probably to Jeddah for customs then on a truck to Riyadh. I am working with the dealership to arrange freight… otherwise I will keep on looking for alternatives and it will definitely be a closed 20’ container.

Interesting feedback. Sounds as though you need a spoonful of "Wasta" and then you will be good to go!
At least your Gov has facilitated Classic Car imports - hopefully that is a sign of GCC alignment. One of my closest Omani friends has just completed a ground up rebuild of a BMW CSI from the 70's - he imported it from Europe and after a few years of intense effort [and much re-work] a few days ago he finally took it for inspection/registration. It looks absolutely stunning and as built "no expense spared" including two visits from a world class CSI speciaiist based in San Francisco. Initially it was rejected because the police saw some welding on the floor pan not totally encapsulated in sealant. In fact he had fitted a brand new factory supplied floor pan and upon appeal to the concerned authorities the inspection was re-evaluated and this time it passed. As things stand I understand to import a car today it has to be less than 5 years old and GCC spec compliant. We cannot import them even from Dubai if they do not meet this requirement. I must ask my friend to check if the procedures here salign with those of KSA.
Look forward to seeing some pics of the GTS. At least you do not have to worry about TBF!
