Default CIS FD air mixture screw does not close

Car started and then acted like it ran out of gas and would not restart.

I added fuel, pump is spinning and delivering to the engine.

I was not getting any injector squeal and tried to follow 928 classics CIS set up process by going full CCW with the FD air mixture screw but have gone way more that 30 turns CCW and don't get to the stop. I confirmed I was pressing down into the spring.

Does the FD need to come out?

I would take out the top screw and check the end of it to see if someone has buggered it up. That will also let you check the top of the real mixture.screw underneath to see if it's messed up.

Once the anti-tamper top screw is removed, you can do the 928 classics procedure on the actual mixture screw. There should also be a gasket between the anti tamper screw and it's mount to prevent vacuum leaks.

Anti-tamper mixture adjustment screw.

I have owned the car for 13 years and been the only person wrenching on it.

I did finally get time to pull the adjustment screw. I don't understand from looking what creates the the full CCW stop.

The flapper valve feels like little resistance until a half inch of depression and then I can feel resistance until full depression. When I release it it does nor seem to return to closed as quickly has it did in the past. Could this be a FD plunger issue?

The adjustment screw you removed can turn infinitely, in either direction.
It is simply a "junction" between the top and the real adjuster, in the sensor plate.
The screw in the sensor plate does have a limit.
I don't think you can turn it 30 turns (which you would never want to do...the maximum amount you should ever need to turn this screw is about 1 turn, from the factory setting.)

I pulled the FD and the plunger seems frozen. I will be trying a FD rebuild.

I was able to get the plunger in the FD free and moving smoothly.

I reinstalled the FD and am trying to follow the 928 Classics "Air/ fuel ratio baseline" process which has turn the AFR screw full CCW still it stops. The process then as you jump the fuel pump and turn the screw CW listening for the injector squeal and them back off. There is a warning about NOT turning the screw full CW as the screw will disengage at 30 turns.

After reinstalling the FD I can not get the AF screw to stop turning when going CCW so it acts like that screw is not properly inserted into the adjuster in the flapper assemble or has broken some how.

The photo posted by Petza914 looks like it has a red color collar just under the bottom of the base plate and mine does not.

Right now with FD in place and no injector tubes connected I have fuel flowing out of all 8 injector supply ports when I jumper the pump with no way to close off the flow using the set screw.

The spring loaded one you're turning actually mates with the actual mixture screw underneath it. Remove the adjusting screw assembly and work directly on the mixture screw itself and see if you can get it to close down properly. That will tell you if you have an issue with the mixture screw itself or with the assembly that mates with the mixture screw.

Thanks for the info. I also found a video on youtube that showed the adjuster screw on the flapper arm. I removed the spring loaded adjuster and was able to close the adjuster screw on the flapper arm. I jumpered fuel pump and increased screw (CW) until I got flow out the open injector ports.

I installed the injector banjos but still don't get a start. I did get a single stumble.

I need to connect my pressure gauge to check system and cold pressures.
