Jeff,

No idea what was in your 928 but mine has a nice steel tubing that runs along the length of the torque tube and that was in perfect condition- if it was corroded I would get rid of it - completely agree that the" rubbery bits" at either end for sure need replacing if still original.

The local Porsche agents had nothing I could work with but the MB agents supplied me with a length of hose to make connectors with and a length of nylon tubing to get from the steel section up to the 5 way- problem solved.

Im keeping the original injectors and have sent them off to RC in SoCal. Only 45k so im sure they will be just fine.
I think some examples had the 7 way fitted with a couple of ports blanked off- supply chain issues perhaps? I seem to recall that was the case with my late 90S4.

AH YA, thats it.

The front rubber piece is a pita to reconnect, so instead of a 3pc path, just did a one piece path.

Porsche simplified it, but made the struggle to fix a bad front hose, a serious pita. Need someone with extra elbows to really get up there and hug the TT.

For sure it was one of those messy jobs where under tray, heat shields, exhaust pipe etc had to come off in order to get at the damned thing as I recall.

Would love to see any pics of your approach with this job if you have them!

Just got the injectors back from RL - Great service. Here are the results. Looks like they were in pretty bad shape. Interesting that cylinder 1 was in such bad shape and #2 was - best of the rest.

For reasons I know not the stock Bosch pintle injectors seem to fare pretty poorly when it comes to fouling up. Chances are those injectors have not been cleaned since the car was new. i reckon these things probably need a test and probably a U/S clean every 100k km or 60k miles to be safe or 100k miles tops. My original injectors were down 5% average and 10% worst example after about 100k km.

Yours are down 20% average- the poor motor must have felt as sick as a parrott and that before we consider other potential power bleeders like the MAF and ignition system components etc. If you have an O2 sensor that can compensate to some extent for the obvious leaning out that must have occurred but that has its narrow limits and the LH computer ignores the NBO2 on full throttle loading.

I believe the 7 way was used on automatics and the 5 way on 5 speeds, giving every engine a minimum of one "extra" (plugged) port.
However, I've seen many '87/'88 (original) automatics with 5 ways.
The "extra" plugged ports were/are a great way to quickly get a vacuum test signal, for all the components.
