Default Post your Oil Filler Neck Color

I'm in the process of getting my intakes powder coated. I'm thinking about doing the oil filler neck a different color then the air intakes.
Need some inspiration.

What do ya got?

Thanks

  • If you have a US 85 928 per your username, then I believe only 85 and early 86 (edit: and early '87) were metal (magnesium alloy). After that, 86.5 late 87 (corrected by Adamant1971) on up, all had black plastic? (Someone please verify!) So, you might get limited responses simply due to the rarity of what you have.

I obtained a metal OFN for my 86.5 because of potential mods to it which I was afraid would warp the plastic one I had.

Never thought of prettying it up, but that's a great idea! You could powder coat it the same as the valve covers or even polish it! If you polish it, you would then need to touch it up occasionally to keep it shiny. Here is some polishing I had done to part of my intake, which I believe is the same material:

Are they interchangeable (for my knowledge)?
My apology for going off topic?

They seem to be a hot ticket item if you can find them; I believe they are interchangeable.

As to polishing, if you go that route, I would bet you can use Sharkhide to keep it looking nice (per @Petza914 who has had great success with that product).

Cheers

86.5 and early 87’s still had the metal neck. The switched mid gear in 87. My late 87 has a plastic neck.

I also believe they are interchangeable. My 86.5 had a plastic one, but I don't believe it was original to the car. PO had had a lot of motor work done. Note that the metal ones don't seem to have the louvered baffle integrated with them like the plastic ones do. I had to find the separate louvered baffle to go with my metal OFN.
