Yugo? Doesn't look like a Yugo to me.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure why that comment was made either.

According to the graph, you are leaning out too much at the end; I would change the fuel filter if you haven't done so recently as a first step. I would be cautious at 'play time' until you have it sorted out.

Assuming it's a calibrated WBO2 installed correctly, I'd be very, very cautious until you get that sorted.

That's scary-lean towards the top.

HP/TQ numbers look good - congrats on the blower!

WOW! I'm shocked you want to buy the S4's, I thought you wanted me to "give" them to you.

Why was the run done in 3rd gear?

I thought 2nd with the kickdown cable and switch unhooked was the "standard" for pulling on the dyno in these cars?

Only reason i ask is on my car when i dynoed it last month there was a significant difference in the numbers between 2nd and 3rd.

2nd was 270ish ft lbs....3rd was 303ftlbs.

Since ive always used 2nd as a base line, thats what im staying with now.

Great numbers!

Don

I would'nt dream of taking those off your hands without some sort of fair compensation. I only like to mooch beer from you.

(If you wanted to 'give' them to me, i wouldnt dream of insulting you by not accepting.)

Hey John,

200 is easy with the 2.2 rear...just remember...on the dyno..you are not fighting wind resistance....

I did the same thing with my 87...had it in D for the run...and everytime I ran it up to 6300 rpm..the dyno would dump the run...frustrating until we figured it out...need to run the 2.2 equipped cars in 3 (with ATs) or 4th gear on the 5spds.

I tell you my tranny was smoking after a couple of 200mph bursts.....ha ha..

later,
Tom

John ---

If I buy Big Reds, I'm sure we will be able to come to a mutual agreement on the S4's.

Much better... what I was referring to is the fact that your first chart has the power looking like less than 50 HP below 3600 RPM. I'm just wondering why there is no lower part of the curve?

Hey Tony,

We have run all our Autos in 3rd...and usually run the 5spd in 4th..unless a GT or GTS due to the 200 mph data kill. Ideally you want to run in the gear that is a 1:1 ratio...which on our cars is D (auto) or 5th on the 5spds.

We did try an experiment with different gears on a GT during one of our sessions but didn't see the number disparity you found. The HP and torque readings were within 10% if I remember correctly.....

Anyway.Don...disable the kickdown switch (pull the switch off the bottom of the plug under the gas pedal) and pull off the bowden cable on the throttle bracket before your next run...manually shift into third on the AT..and then get her up around 2k rpm....watch for the dyno guys signal..and hammer it...
After you get to 6500 or so..let off...and have the dyno guy brake the drum down to 2k ..and then watch for his signal...and hammer it again....
Do this 4 times...throw out the first typically..and then compare the rest....

should get good resolution on all peaks....with this method. This is what Marc T uses at Devek for comparison...and it worked well for our 6 or so dyno days we have had up here inthe PacNW...

Either way..with the S4..you should see your torque peak at around 3K...so your numbers in theory should go up...

Later,
Tom

Tom & Tony ---

Thanks for all the information. I've only been to 2 shops, and in both instances you are NOT allowed in the car (insurance reasons). They drive the car into the shop, put it on the dyno, strap it down, and do the pulls. You're merely an observor. Thanks again, now I'll be an INFORMED observor. They should have no problems running the pulls the way you indicated.

I'm replacing the fuel filter, in case it's restricting the flow of fuel.

Talked to Tim -

He's developing a diagnostic kit, so fuel pressure/delivery can be verified while under boost. Should help tremendously in trouble shooting.

In the mean time, I'm taking life easy, and staying off the boost.

Are you sure your FMU is set up right (rings / disks / springs)?

Tim said the FMU is set up at Vortec with the correct rings/disks/springs. So unless they screwed up, it should be ok.

Replaced the fuel filter.

Waiting for the diagnostic kit from Tim to check fuel pressure during boost.
