Question O2 sensor

Getting ready to replace my O2 sensor. I bought a 3 wire universal (Bosch) to install. There are 2 white wires and one black wire. It looks like the original O2 sensor only has 2 wires. I am supposed to cut the connector off the universal and splice it into the original. Which wire goes where? What wires do I splice together?

Thanks

The origional has 3 wires. You need to find the 3rd one.

Is there two whites and one black on the original too? Do I splice the black to black and white to white? Does it matter which white wire is spliced or does it not make any difference?

Thanks

Both white wires go to the heating element, which does not care which way current flows through it. Splice it either way.

The Bosch USA web site comes up with the # 15735 as the Universal O2 sensor for the MY 88. This also is the same # for my '85. I can't seem to find one locally (Vancouver, B.C.) Well, actually one place said they could get one for me if I could wait until July and pay $110 US.
