Default 5 spd conversion to sell ....gauging interest

I have a 84 5spd and will remove and sell everything I have for someone to do a conversion.
Basic details.
1. NO TRANSMISSION OR TORQUE TUBE
2. Full firewall sheetmetal with 5sp holes, etc. for clutch pedal and master.
3. Master clutch cylinder
4. Clutch pedal (w/ accel and brake) assembly
5. Bell housing w/ slave cylinder
6. shifter and boot
7. misc factory parts
-Basically everything for 5sp in a factory 84 except the tranny and torque tube.

So, the purpose of this thread is:
1. Is there any interest in this?
2. What would be going price for everything I have, removed and ready?

Thanks, Jason

Not too many years ago I bought almost everything for the 5 speed conversion out of an 89 that was wrecked with about 19K miles. My cost for all but the torque tube was $4200 including shipping from Portland to here. Does tht help?

I put together a list of things that are also needed for the 5 speed conversion,
I think I listed all of them , if anyone sees something that is missing feel free to add it.

So what your going to sell is
the fire wall insert to mount the Master cylinder
The brake and clutch pedal set,( might need additional push rods or clevis from the pedals depending on what your putting them in.)
An upper bell housing, (NOTE this part is not really needed as the old bell housing can be used by inserting a pivot ball)
A shifter and boot.

NOTE the hydraulics should be tossed out if they are used ,
as they would be replaced with new parts to insure longevity of the system.

I would guess 150.00 to 200.00 for these parts,
and it depends on what other misc parts your including.

You still need
A front and rear shift rod with front shift rod coupler
A clutch assembly, (2 discs a I plate and Pressure Plate)
A set of clutch bolts (9)
A release arm (thats made to match the guide tube and TOB)
A new bushing and TOB with guide tube,
New shift rod guide, ( bolts to the top of the TT)
A pedal switch for the cruise control cut off.
A 5 speed flywheel ,
Pilot bearing.
5 speed tachometer
CE panel jumper to replace the relay used in the auto version
A new Master Cylinder thats been modified for dual disc,
and the CMC mounting standoffs , bolts and the plate
A new slave cylinder,with 2 bolts
I suggest a new GB flex line to the slave,
A new blue line,
Cut the port on the tank to feed the MC
Rear shift coupler ,
Rear 5 speed cross member.
2 new trans mounts.

Previously mentioned but needed
5 speed Transmission.
Fresh Torque tube, with driveshaft,
A front and rear driveshaft coupler set with new pinch bolts.
its pretty long list of parts,
NOTE its really better to buy a whole 5 speed parts car for a donor.

Now, if only somebody had a whole 5 speed parts car. Wait! I do. 89 S4 with less than 50k miles. (Shameless plug)

Here some thoughts on the value since I just completed the 5spd swap.

2. Full firewall sheetmetal with 5sp holes, etc. for clutch pedal and master. 928 Motorsports made a bracket (under $100) which pretty much made the need for cutting this piece out obsolete. However, I just checked the 928MS mostly defunct website and that part is not showing any availability. So it looks like this piece may have some value in the labor it takes to remove.

3. Clutch Master Cylinder - PN 92842317306 - New these run from $100 - $180 for the FTE or *** brand. It is difficult to put a value on a used CMC given these are a wear item and the cost of replacing is low and the difficulty of replacing is high.

5b. Slave cylinder (dual disc) - PN 92811623719 - These can be purchased new for around $90 and this part is specific to the dual disc clutch so it may not apply to all buyers. . Again this is a wear item and it is reasonably inexpensive so the value of a used part may be marginal unless you can demonstrate it was recently new.

5b. Bell housing (dual disc) - The bell housing consists of an upper and lower part. These parts are the same for manual and automatic drivetrains. Subsequently they are more commonly available and most people doing the swap already have these pieces. I see these listed on Ebay frequently around the $150 for both the upper and lower housings. The upper bell housings (928.116.401.9R) for cars before 1986 have the ball pivot in a different position for the dual disk clutches although several folks including myself are using the later bell housing with the dual disk clutch without issue.

6. shifter and boot - It would be good to disclose which parts since there is a lot going on with the assembly, But if you have all these parts you do have some value here. The shift lever alone is $65. The front and rear rods are $40-$60 new each. The all the bushings have no value since they are high wear items, this includes items 2, 4, 7, and 15. The shift boot is $200 new. Since you have used items do a little price shopping on 928intl. That will give you a good idea what these parts are worth used.

7. misc factory parts - there are a lot of other high value parts beyond the TT/Trans that you should be thinking about. Here are some thoughts:
  • Manual trans cross member ~$175 - $250 You want to provide the part number. Your 1984 cross member should fit all cars before 1986 (some exceptions apply)
  • Flywheel (Dual Disc) 92810220211 New these will run $250 - $300. A used one has some value if you can provide the service life measurement and indicate whether it needs machining ($90).
  • Clutch discs (Dual Disc)- These can be $200-250 each new. So if your used ones have good service life in them they have value. Include this measurement when you sell them
  • Intermediate Plate (Dual Disc)- 928-116-033-22 These are incredibly difficult to find. They are NLA from Porsche and 928Intl is the only company selling them $575 used and $750 exchange.
  • Pressure Plate (dual disc) 928-116-031-26. Used these go for $150, $400 new. You will want to demonstrate the friction plate and the fingers are not worn.
  • Release bearing (dual disc) - New these go for ~$400. Used not sure there is much value because anyone will want to rebuild it. Maybe there is value in the core.
  • Guide Tube (dual disc) - these range from 50-80 new
  • Intermediate Shaft - these range from $250 used to $500 new. just make sure you provide pictures of the splines to demonstrate condition.
  • Front Drive shaft Coupler - 92242105102 these are found for $60-$90 used commonly.
  • Clutch lines - if you have the old metal lines they have some value ~$100, although most people do away with the hard lines and use a flex line from the CMC to the slave.
  • Instrument cluster - if you can provide the manual cluster that should be worth $200-$400.

Default 5Spd conversion

About 5 yrs ago I purchased a 79 parts car for $600. Interior was gone ,every corner was dented but it had a complete driveline and an odometer that said 42K miles (wishing). My 83 got a manual swap and I very happy I did that.. Much more engaging car now.
