Default New product: Engaging teeth for '78 thru '84 928 transmissions

Brand new product:

Well, it took a year, but we finally have brand new, American made, transmission engaging teeth for the '78 to '84 transmissions.
We had been using engaging teeth removed from damaged gears, for many years, but the supply of damaged gears with good engaging teeth had/has gotten extremely limited. (difficult and extremely hard on tooling to remove without damaging the teeth.)
Before that, we had used the Chinese (advertised as OE, but definitely not) ill fitting and incorrect dimensional engaging teeth, for a very short while.
(The ID of the actual teeth was too small, which held the synchro too tight, and caused "grinding" as soon as the synchro knocked off the high spots. We had to have each set of these Chinese engaging teeth "internally ground" after installation, to allow the synchro to fit correctly.)

Anyway, we ran very short on viable engaging teeth about a year ago...and we could not even locate any Chinese teeth.
So we sent good engaging teeth off to a US manufacturer of pieces like this and had them duplicated (with several updates which are done on modern engaging teeth.)

New engaging teeth for '78 thru '84 transmissions.

Close-up of new engaging teeth, showing shot peening of teeth to remove stress risers at the base of the teeth.

Badly worn engaging teeth, requiring replacement. Extremely common on gears that have been "grinding" when shifting, for any period of time.

Badly damaged area from "stop block" smashing into engaging teeth, requiring replacement. (Right side badly smashed and pushed inward.)
This occurs when an early transmission is shifted into a lower gear at too high of an rpm. (Actually pretty common and will cause grinding, even with new synchros.)
Engaging teeth not very good, on these engaging teeth, either.

I had enough teeth made for my own use, plus a percentage of extras, for people rebuilding their own transmissions.
Currently available in very limited quantities (approximately 10 sets), for those of you who have plans on rebuilding your grinding '78 thru '84 transmissions, anytime in the future.
Price on request at Precision Motorwerks
928 International also has access to these pieces, if you prefer.

Really not a huge change, just less distractions, which pay zero dollars, attrack a high percentage of trolls, and suck up valuable time.

As someone who had a 79 5 speed rebuilt by doc with a stronger LSD for my racer I know how well his transmissions work......shifting when from annoying to a dream...& it really put power down getting off the corners...no more 1 legger burnouts on slicks!

In reality, the old engaging teeth can be a challenge to remove from 928 gears. (911 and 915 gears are much easier.....there's an aftermarket tool made for this.)
So, for the "home rebuilders" (or for shops without the proper tooling) we do offer a service to remove your worn/damaged engaging teeth and install the new teeth for a nominal charge.
Inquire when you order your replacement teeth.
