Default Simple Question: Fuel Line ID

I can’t seem to find this measurement anywhere and I’m sure one of you know it off the top of your head. What is the ID of the fuel line that runs from the tank to the fuel pump? Is it the same measurement for the line coming off the fuel pump as well?

This depends on if you have a fuel strainer or an internal tank pump
Are you trying to match it , if so you should just buy a new factory hose
IIRC the ID is either 10 or 12MM

I want to put an addition low micron inline fuel filter on. Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe between the hardline and the sharkskin fuel line on the bottom side of the engine compartment. However, I’m not positive of what size fittings I’d need.

I added a pre-pump filter on one of my cars where the strainer had deteriorated. There is some neat fuel line called sidewinder that gives you this pre-molded configuration and you can cut from it the sections you need for tight bends without kinking.

Filter shown is a Wix. I have a couple of them I'd sell if that's what you're looking for as I no longer have this car.

thanks. That’s pretty cool line. Happen to remember what the ID was? I’m planning on taking a look at mounting options this weekend. I’ll let you know on the filters. Thanks for the offer.

Ordered the 3/8" and 1/2" sizes but don't remember what I used where. The Wix filter is 1/2" in and out.

I think I used the 1/2" in the photo I showed and maybe a section of the 3/8" for the fuel return sender at the top of the tank to make that weird little curve, but don't recall.

For whatever it's worth, I used straight 3/8" fuel hose on top of the tank, but looped it once around the fuel sender.

Plenty of length to trim it if either end gets damaged in the future, and no kinks either.

Why would you want to take such action as a matter of interest?

If the tank strainer is goosed and you do not want to risk pulling it simply fit an in line strainer. You would not want to take a dump with your shorts in situ but metaphorically speaking that is what you are proposing to do if you were to install a low micron filter there. The role of a pump strainer is to catch particulate matter that could cause the pump rotor to jam and that would typically be sand [or whatever] that is ever so slightly bigger than the rotor to stator clearance. That is why the fuel filter is mounted on the pump discharge where it is specified to catch crud that could ultimately cause a blockage in the fuel injectors

I'm not so much worried about the particulate going through the pump, I'm more concerned with it going through the FD/WUR/fuel nozzles.

You have a perfectly good filter on the pump discharge to do just that- or at least you did when Porsche supplied it.
