That's great! Lovely car. Admittedly I'm a little out of my league but so far everything has been fairly straightforward and not wallet crushing. There's a Porsche club meetup at a coffee shop near me, PERC (East Lake) once a month so hopefully at some point would like to make it there .

Don't throw away old bearing or anything until you source new parts. Main bearings and rings (just for the 4.5) are expensive. Rod bearings are OK. You will need valve guides and to surface the heads. Might as well have them grind the valves at the same time.

I actually have a PPI from 172k that shows good compression on the engine.

Not a ton of progress, but I finally got both heads partially rebuilt, valves lapped and stem seals replaced. Made sure to not to mix and match anything. Working on the cam towers? I seem to be missing two 23x3 orings for the little spacer sleeve for the cam. They didn't come with the gasket set (Victor Reinz). Orings came out as hard plastic. Woodruff key's were replaced from a new set I bought on amazon a while ago, these aren't anything special right? Seem to be standard size. Also scored this sweet slot car track for my kid's birthday, so that's been taking up some time.

Roger will have a pretty good idea of availability of every little bit and bob. He will probably have stock, but even if not he will mostly know. In addition to the factory work shop manual I find the parts diagrams in the PET software very useful. If you don't have PET, Automobile Atlanta has the parts diagrams online. Most of the time, I would mostly go to them for 914 parts, and not 928 parts, but it is nice that they have the diagrams.
