Where's that East Lake meetup? I can bring my 79/80 5spd.

How are things progressing?

Isn't it amazing how nice the engine is after 175 k? A testament.to the original build quality...

Enjoy!

Agreed! Progressing well, albeit a little slow. Against my best judgment I decided to tackle the cleaning job on my own and it's taking quite a while. I'm just getting started with one of the cylinder heads, replacing valve stem seals. Still have a little work with the carbon buildup.

It's once a month at the Perc Coffee shop in East Lake, Maybe the last Sunday of the month but I've yet to find a definitive time. I'll let you know if I find a date. Cars and Coffee is the name.

Don't throw away old bearing or anything until you source new parts. Main bearings and rings (just for the 4.5) are expensive. Rod bearings are OK. You will need valve guides and to surface the heads. Might as well have them grind the valves at the same time.

Sage advice, I looked up sourcing piston rings and had a hard time. Luckily the car came with the $400 victor reinz gasket set. Thrust bearings are worn down to the copper so I may as well buy the whole main set for $200. I just lapped the valves last night and they came out looking good.

I actually have a PPI from 172k that shows good compression on the engine.

Not a ton of progress, but I finally got both heads partially rebuilt, valves lapped and stem seals replaced. Made sure to not to mix and match anything. Working on the cam towers? I seem to be missing two 23x3 orings for the little spacer sleeve for the cam. They didn't come with the gasket set (Victor Reinz). Orings came out as hard plastic. Woodruff key's were replaced from a new set I bought on amazon a while ago, these aren't anything special right? Seem to be standard size. Also scored this sweet slot car track for my kid's birthday, so that's been taking up some time.

Roger will have a pretty good idea of availability of every little bit and bob. He will probably have stock, but even if not he will mostly know. In addition to the factory work shop manual I find the parts diagrams in the PET software very useful. If you don't have PET, Automobile Atlanta has the parts diagrams online. Most of the time, I would mostly go to them for 914 parts, and not 928 parts, but it is nice that they have the diagrams.

Thanks, hopefully I didn't make a mistake by ordering from Auto Atlanta, they are so close I figured why not. I've been using a combination of the workshop manual and AA diagrams and that seems to be a good combo.

Welcome to a superb forum!
That looks like a beauty from the outside, nice colour. Good work on the engine. Any pictures from the interior?

Thanks! I have a lot of over due maintenance and detailing to do. I’m looking forward to seeing all the 928s out and about in our area. I’m really surprised how many there are around. Why are we keeping them hidden away??

Auto Atlanta…. How on earth am I just now hearing about a local 928 parts source? Any other local spots I should know about?
