New owner hear have read a lot but OMG there is so much info.
How have you folks set up the connections for a battery tender. I know I should just drive the car and that way I won't need the tender but at best this will be a weekend car.
Currently I have to remove the spare and open the battery box and then have a cable running out of the rear hatch surely there is a more elegant way of connecting a charger.
Another alternative that I moved to for short term battery maintaining during the driving season is simply connect the positive aligator clip from the tender to the jump post, and the negative clip to the nearest bolt head on the cross member. No fuss and no dealing with the rear hatch and hassle. In winter, I always pull the battery and store it warm and dry in my house.
My battery tender has short cords, one with aligator clips, the other with ring terminals. I connected the one with ring terminals permanently to the battery. The cord is just long enough to pop out into the rear of the luggage compartment. From there I can plug in the long cord from the tender and route the cord through the hatch. Make sure you close the hatch enough to allow the interior lights to power down after the delay interval.
I placed mine on the opposite side, in front of the AC condenser and ran the hot lead up to the jump post. The power lead is cut short and dangles just down to the ground where it plugs into my extension cord from the garage.
I have a dual setup using the quick connect so does t matter if I pull into the garage forward or back in. The front one is connected to the jump post and a ground and tied to one of the front grill pives at the side. Tucks up out of the way when not in use.
Rear one is connected to the battery and sits in the rear tool panel hole where the rear wiper shaft used to be now that it's wiper delete. To use that one I lift it out lay it sideways on the little shelf that's there and close the hatch on the cord.
Socket under rear licence plate, connected via a fuse with ring terminals on the battery. In Oz its known as a 'Merit' socket & plug - more positive central connection than a cigarette lighter. No need toopen hatch, just pull the lad out, close the cover. Pretty much invisible.
