Default Transmission oil volume

Wondered if I could get some advice on changing transmission oil... newbie on my first 928 so please go easy!
Car is a 1980 S, manual. Transmission serial number is G28/03 119 3222. No LSD. Checking online that seems to be original but I know it is a reconditioned unit from PO.
I followed this guide: https://rennlist.com/how-tos/a/porsc...n-fluid-384148
When I drained it, I would say around 4.8 litres came out, looking pretty dark (into an old 5 litre mini beer keg). I can't measure exactly what came out because I erm spilled a bit. I was expecting 3.8 litres if original, 4.5 litres if a later reconditioned unit was fitted.
So far I have added 5x Red Line 75W90 bottles, working on the principle that I should replace what came out. With a little bit of spillage transferring I reckon I'm at 4.7 litres now, given each is a US quart / 946 ml... no sign of reaching the fill plug level yet. This is in my garage so it's pretty level. Should I:
A) Stop there - I'm close enough?
B) Order another bottle and keep going until it starts to spill over the fill plug (can I overfill it like this if checked at level)?
C) Drain it again and try and put exactly 3.8 litres in?
I'm hoping collective wisdom says Option A...

I've never seen a manual transmission where you don't just fill it until it leaks out the fill hole, just like transfer cases and differentials.. Its the automatics that have to have a certain level at a certain temperature and be filled while running and moving the lever through the gears.

Greg, what makes the 928 manual different than fill it until it leaks out? Or at the volume the OP posted he's put in he's almost there so it doesn't matter as he'll hardly use any from the next bottle to achieve the drip?

Yes, except for 951's I fill until it leaks out, also.

However, your second paragraph is what I'm thinking, in this situation. Another cup or two will never make a difference.

Since you brought up 944s, I just added a manual 89 S2. Fill until it drips or do something different like on the 951?
