here’s those end caps. The “L-Jet Prototype” is a very strange car! Really hoping someone can help out with this thing.

Since posting, I have torn down the engine and down an intake refresh and timing belt job. During that time I found date codes. The earliest being 1976, on an air pump delete bracket. This car wears no emissions control devices. The latest date code is 06/79, on the rear cam covers, a month after 'completion' of 92A0810012. The AFM is dated 78, with !!80!! hand written on it. The heads, cam towers, and block is dated 77. The oil pan is dated 78. The entirety of the engine's components are letter coded, with hand inscriptions. The block is A, the heads are B, the cam towers are C, the coolant bridge is D, and so forth. The distributor is dated 77 and has 'Kat. C.' written on it in the same font as the rest of Porsche's factory stampings. The intake manifold is a K-jet manifold with a strange plug bolt in the front. The fuel lines coming off the body to the fuel pressure dampers are K-jet lines adapted for L-jet and do not match any other car I've seen, or anyone else that's seen the car in person.
What is going on here? Other strangeness: The car has an integrated pop-out mirror for the passenger in the roof. It is a leather interior car, with a strange dash that nobody has seen before. The car is noted to have left the factory silver, but the underside of the battery tray is white. Under the dash it is silver. ???
I think I can address some of these "oddities" or at least try.

The white you see under the battery box is typically the color of the textured coating that Porsche used on the lower half the of the car. I have also seen it on the inside box as well without much texture.

The bolt on the front of the intake is found on manual cars. It blocks the vacuum port that would normally be used for automatic cars modulation.

The vanity is found on early cars without a sun roof. Not sure how long that feature lasted thru the model run

The dash is interesting. When doing leather or vinyl wrapped dashes, those corners are tricky if trying to avoid stitching. Those caps are a really good way to avoid that bunching of the wrap. Not sure if that's factory but a great idea .

Cool car!!!

Here’s a couple pictures of the sticker on the dash. 9000? 9008? 9009? Not sure.
or is it 0006?

0006 certainly.
The complete order number was 120-0006, I think. This is a number that you can find stamped somewhere on the bodyframe.

Sixth 928 ordered of the 1980 MY.
