993 vs. 928
Yes. Last night a taxi ignored my flash (yes I am reverting to European driving conventions as I age) .... in fourth gear, at first opportunity I twisted between it and the right-lane groupie and only let off at 150. At this point I realised that I was perhaps a quarter mile ahead. I also was reminded by the amount of g-force upon braking for my exit, that I was now at Autobahn average speeds. The old 1987 still has a bit of pep in her.
"Oh give me a home where the 928's roam, and the 993's and the 996's play ....."

Deciding between apples & oranges is difficult, but as others have said ...
A '98 993 is the pinnacle of the 911 breed. Collect that now and go back for a GTS later. I mean, you need to have both at some point, right?

Coincidence? I think not.

993 - stupid 65 mph speed limit = 928

Straight up, the 993 would probably get my vote - just because it's the last and best of the air cooled 911s.
But when I had a similar situation a couple summers ago - whether to give up my 928 or my pristine 40k mile '89 Carrera coupe... my sig line tells you which I decided to keep!

(Sorry I couldn't help it!)
Depends on how you plan to drive it:
For highway cruising, or romps on the gas to impress your friends with power and torque, there are few substitutes for a 928.
For track driving, canyon carving, and diving into and out of corners, the 993 is hard to beat.
So which are you?

as others have said, they are very different cars. I have driven them both a lot. The GT is a very capable car but has far less feedback and fine control. Relaxing, in other words, as befits a Grand Tourer.
The C4S is more lively and involving, but tiresome to some who prefer a more comfortable and easy drive.
I'd take the C4S any day for track driving or hard bursts through country roads. I think they are pretty even on the highway. The GT fits more luggage and drinks more gas.
Actually they are so different that it all comes down to your own priorities and taste!

Buy my 88 in excellent condition, and get both!
I had a similar dilema except I have the 928 and wanted a 911, ended up with the 996 version, and every day it is tough to make the choice. Someone else said it here, if you like long vacation type drives the 928 is hard to beat. However the 911 has become my favorite of the two just because it is so nimble and I really like the look. Tough choice you will not be disapointed with either one.

Where did the $27K price for the GT come from? In December he was asking $25K. Since the car has been for sale for a long time, that is pretty good evidence it is overpriced. Negotiate (down, not up) or keep looking. Darrel (the seller) can start sending me hate mail. Sorry I can't advise you on the 993 comparison, but the GT is probably a better high-speed, long haul vehicle.
A '91 Black/Classic Gray..I must say that I'm biased. You wouldn't have to put out any more $ on a wheel upgrade on that one. IMO, those are the nicest looking wheels for a 928. I want a set of those on my car.
A '911' gets looks from the admiring public.
A 928 gets looks from the car enthusiast public.
(But really, who cares about who's looking at your car).
I can't weigh in on the ride/feel of both cars, but I can compare the sound.
Although the 993 has a unique sound, the 928 GT with a RMB at about 5k....hands down.

I can't imagine the 98 C4S is the same price. If it is Sherman, I'll sell you my GT and set me up with that 993. Those are at least $45k cars still. So with a 20,000 dollar difference, the GT is now really hard to beat.
One huge reason for keeping my GT was that, the only car I would have sold it for was a nice 993 (sorry guys). The price difference was just to big for me right now. No way I could have switched to an older Carrera though, too crude, even if they are raw sporting machines.
