Default Auto selector cover removal

How do you remove the plastic plate around the auto selector lever? I've read the WSM, I'm aware of the locking levers. I've pushed them forward, as described. Then it says lever at the left rear corner. Nothing doing. It's definitely going to break before it lets go

I'm clearly missing something. Any ideas appreciated?

EDIT:
Actually, step 3 says, "Move selector lever to position R, disconnect gate and push forward as far as possible". Absolutely no clue what this means.

It’s a few years since I last had to do this, but I think the gate refers to the corrugated plastic section. When you unclip it from around selector lever you can push the strip forward. In that position you can lift the plate with the gear indicators.

Yeh - I've tried all of the above but it just won't budge. It's definitely going to break before it comes apart.

I've even got the carpet trims off at the sides and am pushing up. Same.

It was just to put an LED panel under there which isn't worth smashing it up for. Still, it's frustrating/annoying.

It sounds like a prior owner somewhere along the way did something under there and probably broke something and glued it back in. It should not be that hard to pop it off.

I have my moments of uselessness, but it's starting to look that way

Think I might have a spare plastic plate, but not the metal piece. If you need one let me know and we'll work out a cheap price. Also have the Jager shiny overlay trim that goes on one and maybe the rubber accordion for the shifter as I changed my setup to a different **** and leather boot.

Thanks - but I'm in right-hand drive land, unfortunately.

As a matter of interest, what's going on with your ashtray?

Ah, gotcha.

Ashtray has dual high power USB ports with voltage readout mounted where the old lighter socket was and controls for heated seats on the left since I have 991 harback sport seats installed in this car.
