Has anyone actually installed the PCCm radio in their 928?
I tried doing a search and everything goes back to 2020 but no actual install info.
I was given one for Xmas last year and while completing the complete rework of my 964 C2 I was expected to install it in the car. I had a nice CD400 Nak deck I preferred sonically but it is gone.
My impressions of the PCCM was it was a medium quality head unit with modern features. Made in China and required far too much to install but I am always up for a challenge. The only radio I ever had that didn't even give you leads off the connectors that plug into the unit so a lot of crimping and soldering.
So I never turn the radio on in my 964's but do occasionally listen to it in the 928. I admit it is nice having the phone and nav available at my fingertips and directions and phone through the speakers. I have the original CD-2 head unit in storage and have a wonderful Nak CD500 in the car currently. In all honesty I am getting accustomed to modern features in the older cars so I am considering installing one in my GTS after driving yesterday trying to listen to my phone that sat on the passenger seat giving me directions I couldn't hear. Having access to spotify or XM while driving isn't bad either.
So has anyone actually installed one in their later 928?
I am looking for ideas where to place the antennas and also if anyone has access to someone who sells adapters to make a plug and play harness?
Any insight would be helpful.
thx
BTW the car already has a phone but it is a bit dated. LOL

As you may know, the PCCM is the 2nd generation of the PCR. From what I've read, as long as your GTS has it's OEM radio harness, then installation is straight forward. 👌
If you search the 928-forum using the term "PCR", you'll find my thread discussing how I had installed the PCR in my shark. In particular, Post #13 talks about how I approached the GPS antenna placement.

Thanks. Yes I believe they are coming out with Gen 3 after the current in stock units are sold out. I have a gen 2 in my C2.
Search comes up with nothing. I don't think it works anymore sometimes.

I have one in the 928. Straightforward install, don’t think I took any install pics. I like the sound quality. I put the gps antenna on the shelf behind the curved driver side rear window. No problem with the reception. I’ll get a pic to post later today.
In my other cars I have one of these that hook up to and bypass the antenna, works great for phone access in older cars where you may want to keep the original radio. The maps on your phone never get outdated either, just need a reasonable phone mount.

That is what I am afraid of. I do need to refrain as I think the GTS is not the car to go crazy with just a few reversible mods. I have been enjoying a lot though lately. Put three hundred miles on it in the past few days.
Thanks this & everyone have been very helpful.

I have first gen in my GTS. You can see more here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...l#post13299603
Like everything, once you post, the trolls came out to feed. Price too high, screen to small, etc. Yet, no one has any compunction paying $1,200 for a china cellphone with 3-yr lifecycle and giving it to an 8-yr old. But I digress...

I love mine...I agree that it/s a tad overpriced for what it doesnt do..but it visibly fits the car _very well_...and using speaker level outputs to a DSP, its perfect.
Anyone who says they cant use the screen for GPS as its too small, failed "How no to get lost" in Boy Scouts...you dont need to stare at a screen to find a place people...

I have Sat radio in mine but with a different head unit. I installed the sat antenna inside the third brake light housing and the mic inside the ash tray.

You can achieve the music and directions thing with any BT compatible head unit. From an audio performance.perspective, I don't think the Porsche unit is very good, which to me doesn't make it worth the cost. If you're just running the stock speakers and amps, then it's fine for that, but if doing any sort of upgraded stereo, you really want higher preamp output voltage (5 or 6v) to drive those amps for clean sound at higher volume.
I have BT connectivity in the Headunits of both my cars and just use the map on my phone, which also is a larger and easier to read screen than the one in the PCM unit.
I do think that for a modern function Headunit that it is a nice mix of a more classic look with more modern features and a decent choice depending on the end goal of the system if money isn't a primary concern.

I don't plan to improve the sound just the features. I have the original CD-2 head unit and amp which will stay with the car.
