So after my second install I am still not happy with how overly complicated they have to make it. Of course it didn't register that there are no Outputs for an amp. I had used the amp from the head unit and use a small soundstream amp for the 6" rears. I had o modify the connector they give you for the XM connection. I have no interest in XM and wire it for the outputs. A bit of a PITA but done.

I have to rework the ***** a little but was playing with using the older style looking ***** but can't have the chrome so I popped out the ring and painted it.

I wasn't sure where to install the USB adapter so I mounted under the glove box for now. Out of sight. I was thinking of adding a phone mount somehow so I can have it next to the radio. I'll post that when I figure that out.

For now this is how it looks. It is fine but as said expensive for what it is. The built in EQ had me being very nostalgic for the days I had all the separate components.

PS: the added wiring for the car phone made it fr more difficult and leaves me no place to place the phone for now.

"Outputs for an amp."

I noticed that too, but I dont recall the last time I relied on a 2v RCP output to provide me clean signal...all good amps have high inputs for this purpose.

I put my USB box behind the dash, and ran very short USB extension cables to the parcel shelf, where they are zip tied secure and cannot pull out.

I will agree its pricey, for what it does NOT do, but, finding all it does have, you cannot find at any price. The product manager at Porsche on this product didnt pay good attention to what it SHOULD do.

I know but the amp setup was done 15 years ago. I wasn't going down that rabbit hole of wires and time. Just the head unit swap from the CD500. It is all I need for now. I just installed 4 new tires. Removed 15 year old 3M PPF. Then had to clean that mess. This all since Friday and I am off to Watkins Glen tomorrow. Then I get busy.

I plan to revisit this at some point and redo it. For now life is full of compromises. I have a long overdue Twin turbo Mezger engine I am building for my track car I have to get done.

did you add a wireless carplay dongle, or are you connecting the phone in your glovebox?

dont want to derail..
however, heading down this path soon as i really like the aesthetics, but im struggling with the smarter choice which seems like it would be to get this cheaper unit and add a carplay dongle to this android unit - which is possible.

I have installed some nice double din radios with Apple car play and bluetooth combo. It is nicer no doubt. They all have the touch screen only, with no buttons. I don't know if they offer a single Din unit like that I would check Crutchfield they would have one if offered.

I am trying to get the car ready for a drive out to the Hamptons in LI, for the Bridge car show in a few weeks. I wanted some form of Navigation for the drive and still look factory-ish which was my priority. For now the phone will get a magnetic mount so I can have it at my fingertips as well to the right of the radio. I just haven't had the time to make the bracket so it sits next to the phone on the console but won't damage anything.

I also just learned that Porsche has recalled all the PCCM radios left in stock. From what I hear there is no reason for the recall but if not installed they are supposed to return them to the factory. I am assuming a gen 3 release but don't hold me too it. All I can say is if this version has wireless and other features I will be less than happy.

I was on the fence for almost a year and finally pulled the trigger for this pos. If the gen 3 has what I want, I’ll be pissed!
