'87 S4 Euro Automatic: What is this black plug for?
We are re-instaling the wire harnesses into my car and everything seems to fall right into place. The only wire and plug I can't figure out is this one:
- The factory alarm is no longer there; can it be related to that?
- The car used to have a mobile phone unit installed on the right side of the centre console (I can tell from the screw holes in the console); can it be related to that?
- The car has no O2 sensor;
Does anyone have a clue?
Thanks for any help!
Manfred

could you get a better shot on the plug itself? how many pins, is it round or rectagular, sorry cannot tell from the image. This looks like an amusing game of "what aftermarket junk was this connected to?". It could be a CD changer or amp plug as well, definitely doesnt look factory!
Yes its the Rear AC ignition (15) power - it is the only thing on Fuse #13 for this year - so if you have no rear AC you could conveniently use it to power any accessory (e.g. hardwired radar detector etc.)
Note for '90 and later the fuse is #45 - but similarly not used for anything else.
Rear AC power connector in CE Panel Area - From Fuse 13 (on an '87-'89)
Not the answer i was expecting! But seems you have a very weird 12V connector there.
Well the idea of that ejector seat keeps spinning in my head....

This is a VW single pin latching connector type 813972924 (4.8mm). It and the mating connectors are probably still available from VW - as well as generics from other sources.
