Selling the 928
Looks like the PO is not able to come up with the cash to buy the car back. Thought I would inform all of you first. Not sure how to get pictures into this post, but I can e-mail pics to anyone and you can view some at http://www.p-caronline.com/directory/huskydog.
Some details are 1988 928S4 5spd Guards red Blk/Cashmere, 53k original miles, 4th owner, all service current. Here is list of work I have done. Have several books, original window sticker, original steering wheel, muffler, shifter, car cover, and a few miscellaneous parts. I re-dyed the interior (front only) last year original color. There are no tears, nicks, etc in the interior and the only exterior mark is a stone chip on the frontabout the size of a shirt button. (touched up but not well). Serviced during my ownership by Tri Tec in Annapolis. Bought a 2001 911 (sorry something I always wanted) and I have no place for 2 toys. Asking $21k.

It seems like there are 3 levels of 928 buyers.
The ones who want something under $10,000.
(Looking for a bargain)
The ones who want something for under $20,000.
(General price for a decent s4...)
And those who want something over $30,000.
(Those who want a GTS, or a GT in perfect condition)

is my price too high? I'm a little conscious as to how much to charge, I'm only going by other 928 prices and trying to find a good fair medium. Even though my mileage is high, the car overall is in really good condition.

Like I said, people fall into those categories.
The people who want the very best 928 they can find, are more likely to be in the market for a 90 GT, or GTS, and will pay top dollar for it...
The people looking for a s4 generally look for something under $20K.
It just seems to me, that there is a big jump in prices, from the $16K range s4,
and then a sudden jump to $30,000+ cars. I do not see many for $20,000, or $22,000.
It seems that a lot of 928s are either in the under $10K range, or the $16K range, or the $30K range.
Not as many linger in the mid-20's...

Thanks for the thoughts, I guess I would entertain offers if somone is interested. Some people like Don T and John K know me and know what condition the car is in and how **** I am about taking care of it. I know all the possible pitfalls concerning 928's and I have addressed and corrected all of them. Eveyone thinks their's is the best and I think that of mine too.
I appreciate everyone who has looked at the post, I'm not an e-bay user but a friend at work is so that will be one of the ways I use also. And hey being the editor of our regional newsletter gives me a little flexibility so I will have an ad in the next issue due out in 5 days.
Thanks again to all, this is a great website and information source. If by some chance I still own the car in June, I'll see you at SITM.

I was just talking about you this weekend. I was speculating that the powers that be in the Chesapeake Region PCA made you, er suggested (yeah thats it) you get the 911 so you dont make the other members nervous, seeing as how you are our defacto information officer and have a need to be taken seriously.
Just kidding. (maybe)
Seriously, i would actually buy the car from you if i could get the loan, but i just refinanced my house and dont wish to test the waters just yet on what amounts to an impuse buy. If you still have it 6 mos from now....

At first glance it seems like $21k is a little high, but if the condition is really that good maybe it's worth it. And if you're not in a hurry to sell it, I'd leave the price where it is. When I sold my 911 a couple years ago I priced it where I though it should be and a number of people told me I was crazy. But several of those who actually looked at it and drove it changed their minds, and eventually I sold it for just under my asking price.

The prices of these cars are getting to be pretty low..........I am thinking about putting another one in my stable.........Gonna be an S4 automatic I think, or maybe a 5 speed OB.......prolly get SC'd too.....
Jeeze, this could be fun!

Huskydog - your car sounds nice, I would hold out for the right price. If someone knows what to look for, then the price you are asking would be about right.
From what I understand the prices in the US are similar to those here in NZ. There are 2 for sale here (1989 & 1990)with 50,000 miles (80,000 km) and they are both for sale at NZ$26,000 (about US$19K). Both are autos.
It is always a trade off - higher miles and the need for quite a bit of maintenance or the need to spend the extra $ to have it already done.
