Owning this car for forty years has made it difficult to envision a replacement that would bring as much joy to me as well as anyone who sees it as it truly has universal appeal to both enthusiasts of all ages as well as those who view cars as appliances. When I was offered a boatload of money for it 10 years ago, I gave serious consideration to putting the majority of money in a retirement fund and taking $100k and buying a replacement. That thought led me to driving a wide variety of cars including a Ferrari, Maserati, Lambo Gallardo, BMW 850, Jag F Type,Aston Martin and Porsche 911. It was a lot of fun, but after many sleepness nights and with the help of Don Osborne whom I called for advice and who questioned me without hesitation:"are you done with the car?" Just because someone offers you a lot of money for a car doesn't mean you should take it if you're not done with the car". Mr.' Osbornes' astute observation gave me clarity and I immediately knew I was not going to sell the car. I then made the decision to restore it and the very next day, began to disassemble it.

Knowing this would be a long process (it took 6 years), I knew also that I needed a replacement to drive while the Lambo was down. My driving a variety of cars during the "I'm going to sell it" period resulted in my "getting it" about a Porsche. Nothing drove as well! So a 981 Boxster S came into my life, then a 958 Turbo and just recently the 928GTS.

The 928 got my attention years ago when at a Ferrari/Lamborghini/Maserati event in the Poconos where a surgeon who owned a Lamborghini invited the Lambo owners to his mountain top estate where he had a quonset hut full of a bunch of different cars of all makes. All registered and ready to drive and amongst them were two 928's,an automatic and a stick. When questioned what his favorite care to drive was, he unhesitatingly said it was the 928's. That has evidently registered in my subconscious and today I am a fanboy and owner many years later.

...
It is a 350 GT or a 400 GT? Original engine if a 350 GT?
EDIT: Ok, it's a 350 GT

And is your 928 GTS an automatic or a manual?

Great cars and thank you for sharing your story.

350GT, one of 120 made-first production Lambo.

The GTS is an automatic, 1993 with 15k miles

Thank you sir!

A very special and historic Lambo, what I would call 'a real Lamborghini' historically. Good on you for holding onto it and restoring it. Stunning!

Just an amazing car that 350GT. And in that condition, what a nice timecapsule. Must be almost surreal to be behind the wheel in that interiour. If we were to nit-pick, the only thing I find a bit challenging is the headlights. But hey, who am I to judge, my car has a rear wing that's the size of a small country!

Yeah I actually think the headlights set the car off from a lot of other vehicles and are certainly superior in appearance to the sealed beams used on the 400GT's. That said they are basically useless as far as throwing light down the road so I try not to drive at night.

Two of my all time favorite car designs. You have superb taste, sir! Very cool history on the Lamborghini given that you've owned it for so long.

A friend of mine owned a properly sorted SV for a while, sadly he was in the US at the time and I didn't get to see it

He assured me that it was a car to be seen arriving in, rather than a car to drive

I don't think interesting and/or desirable cars, even those that are projects, are going to be subject to depreciation as they have done in the past

My euro will finally have a fitting place to live, just poured this 14 X 24 pedestal with overhangs for under lighting on the property where I am building a house. It will be painted white with red brick chips surrounding it when done.

It will look good in a few weeks and then IF I ever get the paint redone in candy pearl black cherry w/o rubstrips and those lousy markers it will be even nicer.

my euro

it's new home

I think we have room for one more 904.... at Le Mans 1964... Great picture, I wish I could have been there in those days...
