Intermittent loud knocking from rear. OB manual.
Hi folks, ok so this is my 79, drives great normally.
The past few drives I have experienced a worsening knocking sound that you can also feel through the body of the car. It seems to be at higher speeds. If I stop and drive on it disappears, even at speed. But then later it randomly returns - always after about 50mph though.
I swapped out the wheels for a spare set and it is just the same. The wheelnuts are correctly cross-torqued.
It is sounding maybe localised to the rear right. I am thinking/hoping it is driveshaft/bearing, although there is no play in the driveshaft or bearing that I can ascertain, and there is no bearing whine.
Anyway, the video explains it pretty well. Driving to St Andrews, Scotland - the town of golf!
TIA

check the CV joint bolts.
did the brakes get wet and rusted rotors,
what happens when you pull the E brake handle gently while rolling>

Thanks, will check those things out. I tried to move the CV joints by hand but didn’t check the bolts for torque. The discs aren’t rusted.

Almost sounds like something flapping in the wind. Check front spoiler mounting security, under tray mounts, etc

Ok so I had chance to get to this car briefly last night and all the CV bolts are tight….but the back right wheel is really seized up.
Just like it would be with a sticking caliper - but I have never heard that knocking with a sticking caliper before..?
So, e brake maybe?
I need to clear some garage space to get the wheel off and investigate. Will update.

This is not a direct answer, but getting it on a lift, at least a Ranger Quickjack, with the car in gear and someone on the accelerator, you might be able to identify the source

Hi folks ok so I ‘finally got time’ and..it was a stuck caliper piston. That was it.
I cleaned up and rebuilt the caliper and it is all good.
Why it made that knocking sound I have no clue. Heating up and warping the hub face?
One for the memory banks I guess..at least it wasn’t as serious as it sounded!
