My oil sump had the signs of oil leaks around most of it, to a lessor or greater extent. As I removed the bolts, some were slightly tighter than hand tight (i.e., good), and some were pretty lose (not so good).
As I removed my oil sump, I have been careful in putting each bolt in the right place on my cupboard retainer.
From the parts list, it appears there should be 5 bolts that are slightly shorter (part number 24). On my set of bolts, I have 3 shorter bolts (not 5)
From what I can tell looking at the sump bottom, there are 4 positions (2 on each side about in the middle) where the hole is relatively shallow, and the rim of the sump bottom is thinner (as there is an indent). My 3 short bolts did come from here, as did 1 longer bolt, which I am thinking is the wrong bolt and should be replaced.
However, I cannot work out where the 5th short bolt should go. There is a 5th place where on the rim that is thinner – one of the bolts towards the rear of the car, near a corner. This would be a logical place for the 5th bolt to go, but the hole itself is deep.
Is this where the 5th short bolt goes or should it be somewhere else?
My plan is to re-use these bolts – cleaning out the holes, new gasket from Roger, applying a dot of Loctite to the bolts, and torquing to 6 nm.
You are correct that 4 of the short bolts go at the indentations in the rim, the 5th goes in the front right corner (looking from the perspective of sitting in the car) where the clearance is tight between the sump overhang and the rim. My short bolt got wedged in the small gap.
Ahh the 5th bolt goes over the starter location the indent is clearly visible.
NOTE looking at PET you need to get the middle sized pan bolts,
and the 5 short bolts ,
NOTE the longest bolts are for the 5 speeds to hold the clutch hose bracket ( 2 required) that you should also remove to be replaced by the GB flex line.
NOTE the LF and RR corners are the alignment bolts these will be middle sized bolts.there should be a plastic collar in the pan that captures the bolts
OP if your using the green gasket then you can make the bolts hand tight dont use a torque wrench ,
use two fingers on the ratchet ./
