Replaced the "relay-relay-relay" XXII, XXV, and XXVI in hopes that I don't get another pothole/bump and car stalls issue. We shall see...

WIWAIT, I replaced the indicator & emergency flasher relay (XIII). And what do you know, now my turn signals and emergency flashers work!

Also replaced the torn washer bottle cap and the air filter (not knowing the last time it was replaced). All of these were baby steps and simple, but knocking items off the list feels good.

I went after the door locks issues and had a separate thread on it here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ng-advice.html

TL;DR is all locking issues fixed after Mark got my DS lock working again!

I splurged on a luggage cover after seeing Stan’s thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...erfect-s4.html

I went withRich Guzman as well. I just unboxed it, so has some wrinkles, but Looks great!

Now to decide what project to tackle next. Been debating my choice of Koni shocks and may splurge on some Boge Reds to go back to original OEM spec. However, I want some driving time so will probably stick to smaller projects for a bit.

FWIW you would be smart to get the Boge reds now as once they are gone you may never get the option again the Bogs will be a direct swap of piercers and adjuster collars without having to JB weld the threaded rings to the Konis

@JBT3 your thread is both an inspiration and motivation!. Central locking will be the first thing I (attempt to) tackle when I get my GT back from the shop!

The parcel shelf is an awesome touch! Keep reporting!

Yep. I agree. The JB welding of the threaded rings is turning me off on the Koni’s.

Please take a listen to this. Is the whoop, whoop, whoop sound a bad wheel bearing? It is speed dependent. Coming from the rear of the car. Guess I’ll be jacking the rear end up and checking for wheel play.

I hear more of a rattling sound than a rumbling sound. Wheel bearings usually rumble. They also change pitch or.sound when the load on them changes, so take a long sweeping turn at 60-70 mph in one direction, the do the same thing in the other dimension. If the sound is at the front and not the rear, the front hwwwl bearings on the 928 are adjustable.

The rattling is just road noise. Tires kicking up junk on road and hitting wheel wells. Hard to isolate the whumph sound.

Haven't posted in a while because I haven't done much except collect parts. Family and work commitments. Plus its hard to get motivated to go out and work in the garage in the cold. Been thinking about adding heat (propane) to the garage to make it bearable.

I did do two small projects today. First was I replaced the map and trunk dome lights with the early 2000's VW version. Couldn't find black ones, so bought gray and spray painted them black. Not perfect, but no one would notice. Nice to have most of the interior lights working now (I haven't looked at the rear most hatch light yet). When I bought it only the passenger footwell light was working. Second was to replace the backup lights with LEDs on the recommendation of this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...se-lights.html

So two super easy wins and hope it builds some momentum for me to get after the bigger projects I want to tackle: intake refresh, wheel bearings, rear half shafts, new suspension, MM, OPG....

Well, I’m ashamed that I haven’t worked on the GT over the winter but I got back after it today. A “simple” job on the exhaust to remove a janky RMB and go back to a stock muffler.

First the awesome. I posted I had a car cover available to swap and Gary responded he had a muffler collecting dust. It’s not the correct muffler for my year but is a huge upgrade to what I had and the price was right. Thanks @Gary Knox ! I’ll find the correct year exhaust eventually but not in a rush.

It cleaned up well with some bar keepers friend and some elbow grease. Painted with some high temp exhaust paint. Grabbed some exhaust couplers from Mark at 928 Intl.

Here’s the POS RMB that was on the car when I bought it. Rusted out and as I was about to find out, installed really poorly.

whoever installed it should be taken out back and flogged. That piece of pipe to the right was a real joy to extract. Was pounded far into the OEM exhaust and had rusted. I tr ied several methods to get it out but finally found a way.

drilled a hole to put the screwdriver in to twist but it would only move after I shot some Kroil in between the two pipes. Kroil is awesome! But keen eyes will have seen a much bigger problem. The RMB installer cut off the flared lip of the OEM exhaust on the left. He really hacked it up and I don’t see a way to easily fix this. Anyone have any ideas?

Any advice is appreciated. I’m stumped on the best way to move forward besides tracking down a used mid section to replace the whole thing.

Had some time to wrench today. Exhaust was already half off, so I went ahead and installed new CV axles. Pretty simple job, but I took my time to ensure I didn’t strip any of the Allen bolts. I bought ready to install CVs from Mark, so it was a simple switch. I followed Dwayne’s write up and the WSM. http://www.dwaynesgarage.norcal928.org/boot.htm

Here are my pics to record the experience. I did this to hopefully cure the intermittent whomp-whomp sound coming from the rear of the car plus who knows the last time it was done. CV boots were in good shape and the axle wasn’t bad. If anyone spots a problem, please let me know. Other than being filthy, I didn’t see any obvious issues.

It's been a while since I updated this thread. I have been working off and on (mostly off) on the intake refresh and all the WYAIT jobs that go with it. Got distracted by all the usual suspects plus a healthy dose of lazy that became inertia. I also used / wasted a lot of time trying to replate various parts with yellow cadium. Mixed results at best and frustrating b/c I'm sure it was my lack of chemistry skills that kept messing me up.
Some of my side adventures along the way:

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...k-wrapped.html
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...tall-help.html
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-now-what.html

Thanks for the tips from the collective on those

However, I did take my time at each step to make sure I did it right and I've been rewarded with a pretty healthy sounding engine and no obvious leaks as a result! Here are a few before, mid-way, and after pictures. I was shocked at the trash and oil in the valley. There was a small lake under the oil filler neck in that cavity. Now all cleaned up and as it should be.
