For now, im going to help him smoke test it and change the viscous clutch and bearing when they show up soon, and get those fuel lines/injectors updated.

He paid $6.5 in 2019..and I think he got a fairly solid car for it.

As I recall, there are small H4s up front...and the funky corner lights they slap on the Euros on the corners.
I'm in the NorCal FB group, although I'm not terribly active on it.

I have LARGE H4s on my Euro! They're definitely larger than the US-spec headlights. I don't have the added side intrusion bars, no rear bumperettes, does include a rear fog light, everything is in German, and I still have the headlight level adjust. I have the side marker lights too.

It sounds like the OP got a screaming deal. I picked my car up from a mechanic on a lien sale in Marysville for $4800 five years ago. The original owner passed away without paying his bill, so the shop sold the car on lien because the widow wasn't interested in it. The repair shop was a total scam operation though and the original owner died just two weeks before the case on the scam car repair went to CA Supreme Court after two rounds in lower courts. Pretty wild story, but the shop claimed to have done a lot of work that they clearly didn't. I have their entire list of claimed work, and I've been through the car enough to know they lied. They had a smog shop lie to get it smogged for the sale to me too. There are a lot of shady folks out there.

I'd love to smoke test my vac system. Is that something you can help me with? My taillights just went out, but once they're fixed I can drive to meet you.

Thanks,
Camelman

I unplugged the radiator temp sensor and the front fan did NOT come on, not does it with the AC in operation..going to assume there are larger issues why this fan will not turn on.

What is this canister?

And the fabric 'S' hose left of the mystery canister, it needs replaced as its split and leaking at the bottom, is this part of federalization as well?

.

Man that looks makeshift to say the least. So many hacks were done to euro's in the fed process. Some of the worst near the electronic brains. The fabric hose should go thru the fender to a BIG canister that is attached to the hidden side of the large PLASTIC "wall" that sits behind the wheel well protector on the passenger side.

I would like everyone to look at this. Do any other euro's have this, which I believe to be factory, as I have never seen a pic of these posted. They are 2 plastic Y's that screw into the head and have 4 vac hoses INCLUDING THE FABRIC HOSE (which I replaced temporarily before this pic was taken) attached.

That may lower combustion temps enough to lower NO?

I haven't checked total vacuum or timing, but that should have been OK at smog check but I'm wondering if they checked at all as its marked non adjustable, it seems to run very well, and it shifts (Automatic) extremely WELL, so no vac leak there.

I had a similar issue when I got my euro. IT RAN DIRTY! It took a LOT of work to fix it. it is all interconnected.

This is part of what I did

New plug wires
New plugs
Check all vac line connections
RUN techron thru engine to clean out cylinders
get THROTTLE cable adjusted properly at FIREWALL while looking at butterfly with somebody with foot on pedal
ADJUST or replace MAF
replace airbox temp sensor
replace fluids
THEN get 2 new FPR's - adjustable
BUY NEW CATS - I disagree with greg about the effectiveness of these AT LEAST FROM THE RESULTS I GOT

go to dyno spend hours with O2 sensor reading exhaust and adjust FP and MAF **** to dial in the right mix

Mine was HIGH on NOX and CO, maybe hc too. AFTER THE ABOVE it was just about ZERO! NO pollution whatsoever, as fast as f$#@

NOT ADVICE just my experience. Porsche set these up to run lean even having the fuel cut off on coast down to save gas. But when a euro is working right it is one incredible engine!

Please read my post #5.
My point about using a modern 4 hole injector was to radically improve the fuel atomization of these cars....not to figure out the cheapest possible way to replace the injectors.
Which is why I made the adapters.....

If you want single hole "pissers" just have the old injectors cleaned.

My euro NOW has refurbed 4 hole injectors, because EURO injectors were NLA a few years ago when I updated things. Which is why I am asking Rog just for curiosity. I have your brackets which work great on the top side but the bottom of the injector requires some hack-work unrelated to your product to get things seated properly.

Here is my engine nowadays you can see your bracket on the pass side

Question for those that know...

Could you do this with an old school CO meter/tester?

Also, get rid of the FP gauge before you burn down. It's a thing.

I didnt think you could clean those..or maybe thats the older style..they look so much the same to me....

It is nice knowing what a set of those cost tho, for anyone else following...I'll consult with the owner on a direction forward.

The cheap Ebay reproduction injectors have here in germany a very bad reputation. Uneven flow and so on.
