Fun pictures. I came early on Thursday and had to leave Saturday morning. Just got home after a very nice 7 hour drive, no real traffic, 80mph all the way. Only confusion was when I saw a big SUV cop car in my rear view mirror. I thought "There's no way you're busting me for 10mph over the limit". Sure enough he was on to somewhere else...
Car held up well. The problem with the AC relay was fixed with 1500 grit sandpaper and a quick rebuild of the climate control unit. The AC blower motor is unhappy, but I was able to run the car with the rear AC unit all the way home and keep pretty cool. I'll pull that this week and see if I can rebuild the motor, it's about time.
And the driver's door motor was fixed pretty easily with the proper taps from a hammer. So all is good!
Final pic of the 928s at the local mountaintop brewery.

Our 84 Euro S was honored with a Best in Show award. Thanks everyone! Means a lot with the votes coming from the other 928 owners as there are a lot of fantastic examples here.
Rolling back in from the fun-run drive
New this year - toasting marshmallows on the gas grill at the Best Western for s'mores - yummy! Great idea JP!

I had no real expectations for SITM 2022, Dave is gone. I came to support Jeannie. And that went well.
Turnout was not terribly large, but the group was enthusiastic!
Me personally, I am d*mned glad to have gotten to talk to Howard Wright again. I may just make a road trip down to Atlanta just to see his shop...
As well, I got to be a fly on the wall to conversations between three of the most knowledgeable 928 experts in the community. Priceless.
Of course, looking at the cars was awesome! Though, I had to serve myself some humble pie. There was a red earlier 928. Looked a little tatty from afar. Looked terrible up close. Though, it was a Euro. Missing trim. Looked like someone had cracked open a can of red Krylon over everything. Just a raggedy looking 928. However, whoever owned it, drove it there, so props to them. Then, I looked at the registration sheet on the windshield. "First year driven after being pulled from a barn in Germany for 15 years."
About, FACE!
I ate my words, each and every one of them. (Granted, all of this was in my head. I will never hassle anyone about their 928.) Serious props to the owner for getting it to America, getting it running, and getting it driving. I found the owner, Ezra. Turns out, he is quite the talented stunt driver and such, with a large stable of Porsches. Including other Euro 928's like this 1984 5spd. After he got this Euro imported, he focused on the mechanicals. He is having too much fun driving it, and will get to the cosmetics at some point. I really enjoyed talking to him, and hope to see him and his Euro again.
Fun run was beautiful, with a couple of mishaps. I want the drone footage the 3rd group took!!!
Just before the fun run, a white 928 with blue racing stripes came barrelling down Tynecastle Hwy and pulled into the hotel parking lot. Driver asked, "Am I in the right place?" Seeing that it was yet another early Euro, I replied, "D*mned right you are!"
Turns out Kenneth is in my general area in Upstate SC. Not only is this 1986 Euro automatic his first Porsche, its his first car project! He is learning as he goes. His stories of mishaps and self effacing humor were great to listen to. We've all been there. He is one of us now. Definitely look forward to seeing him again.
And...just as in 2018, Hans got me. Yet another Banner Elk Cafe 'Fish Camp Burrito'. I am thinking 'Godfather' style revenge...
Late Friday, we learned of Harvey928 (Carlisle)'s passing. A bottle of Fireball was found, shots passed out, and we toasted his honor and memory!
A bunch of us sent Dave off properly, as he will never be forgotten at his and Jeannie's event.
Final reminder, bring pants and a long sleeved shirt. Or at least enough booze so you don't feel the cold.
See you delinquents next year!

Well said Seth! Kudos. Glad everyone made it home safe and looking forward to next year which was another highlight of the weekend, albeit small and some may have missed it; Jeannie announced the dates for 2023 at the end of the drivers' meeting - I breathed a little sigh of relief. Awesome that this will continue.
Look out Banner Elk!

When I checked out of the Best Western the clerk asked if I wanted to reserve for next year, which I did.

Interesting story. The 928 that Keith Martin ( founder of Sports Car Market Place) used to own was at SITM. A guy bought it and had it shipped from Oregon

Had a great time once again!, great to see all the 928 Faithful, and weather was absolutely perfect. Of course it was somber with the absence of Dave, but we all where there to support Jeannie and honor Dave.
I didn't drive a 928 this year,, but I did bring my girlfriend Janet and Boxer Murphy, who entertained everybody and was very tired by the time we returned home- looking forward to 2023!

Pete, your car is gorgeous. Seth and others, terrific photos.
As I have said before, as an outsider looking in, the 928 enthusiast group seems full of friendship and good will. Maybe some day my wife and I can join...
Cheers

A big thank you to all who attended, who helped, who photographed, who led drives, and whose beer we drank. The cars are what brings us together, but it's the cameraderie of the group that keeps us coming back.
