I finally have the set of S4 discs (7's & 8's) I bought on ebay to replace my mismatched BBS's. The lug nuts I have are plain black ones, having been under the wheel covers. What kind of nut was used for the disc wheel? Chrome? I never seem to be able to tell in pictures. Open or capped?

The stock lug nuts are black anodized and the first time you put a wrench on one it is scratched forever. You can get them polished but the same thing is true only difference is the scratches are less noticeable. Chrome is the other option and they probably hold up best.

There are powder coated versions of the lugnuts.......much more durable and won't scratch nearly as much........but are more money.

I bought my replacement black lug nuts from 928 Specialists. Boothe has a good selection too. Be sure to install with Anti-seize and a torque wrench!
I picked up two soft sockets at Pelican Parts, One for the toolkit I'm assembling to go in the tirewell, and one for my rollaway at home so I don't have to dig out the toolkit If I'm doing work at home. I would probably have picked up the soft socket from Boothe when I bought the center caps, but I didn't see them at the time. Pelican is a couple $ cheaper on the socket. Here's what they look like:

Parnelli,
I have the black lug nuts on my car (along with a set of polished flat wheels). For the most part, I live with the odd scratch here and there, except when I get my car ready for a show or wash and shine event.
I make a small funnel out of cardboard that is slightly smaller than the recess where the lug nuts reside in. After I am through polishing the wheels and doing anything else on the wheels or tires, I position the funnel and then give the lug nuts a quick shot of flat black paint. The results are instant perfection.
I also used the soft socket, but scratches still appear magically and paint covers them up easily and without costing an arm and a leg.

what did you pay for the set of 7s and 8s pan rims? polished?
I have a set off the holbert car and I want to see what is a fair price.
anyone interested, contact me. they are in pretty good shape, but need some cleaning, but are the polished type 7-8s
Hey, a good combination is the 8s in front. those are the valuable part of the rims. 8s can fit 245 to 255x45 tires . Having 255 on all 4 corners is AMAZING for handling!!!!!

Thanks for all the feedback, folks.
After realizing how deep the nuts rest in the wheels, I went with my scratched stock nuts and they look fine, given that my car has three shades of faded red to compliment the sun cracks on the hood and peeling around the panel edges.
As for market value of a set of 7/8" discs...it varies widely. I shopped hard for what I got, which are unpolished and mostly free of dings, no curb rash at all.
Sets of four 7's are easy to find, when I first got the car(Jan 04), I saw a set of good ones go unbid on ebay at a $200 start price, and they sold for that to the lone bidder at the last minute. I had forgot to check back on the auction, nor was I yet aware that my car had three 8" wheels and one 9".
Once I did, I became a bit more agressive in my hunt. One afternoon I was high bidder on a nice 7/8" set at $330 but someone else got into my game and outbid me in the final minutes(seconds, more like). I was refreshing ever four seconds and was high bidder @ 45 sec at $505, I bid $525 @ 20 sec and still lost out to his higher proxy bid, they sold for $527.
And the winner was in NY, the wheels in LA, so add at least $100 shipping. I only went that high because I have friends in LA and am pulling a car down there soon for one of them, thus shipping wouldn't have been an issue. Glad I lost though...
I made something of a coup on my wheels, at least it seems like I did.
The ebay auction was for a set of wheels and tires, well, you can look for yourself-

the seller called them four 7 incher, but the description and poor pic led me to think otherwise, so I e-mailed him directly to have him confirm my hunch, and I was right- but he never updated his auction to reflect that he did have 7's and 8's. Sold for $306. I was thrilled even though @ 3500 miles away shipping wasn't going to be cheap.
I had already bought a new set of OEM sized Kuhmos to match this wheel combo (for $500 straight up), so I had him loose the tires and four wheels cost me $105 to ship via UPS for a grand total of $411.00 for the set, with center caps too! Most auctions don't include these, and last I checked no one exactly gives them away.
I'm pleased with how it panned out. Every post I've made looking for a BBS wheel to make my odd set even has only resulted in offers to buy mine when I admit defeat. So that'll recoup some of the cost there.
