Has anyone actually seen or heard the new Blaus? I'm looking for them for myself, but I'm reluctant to order a set or two just to turn arround a nd dump them (already have enough in the closet).

Mike, I'm in the planning phase of a sound system R&R for my '91 and am considering the MB Quarts. If I may ask a few questions:
- what did you have to fabricate?
- how many watts are you pushing through them?
- from what source?
- do you think the power input level is adequate?
- did you do a two-way system all around? or a 3-way in the rear?
Thanks in advance.

It's more like what you need to destroy rather then fabricate!
For the 4" front door and rear 6.5" inch speakers you basically need to remove the old speaker basket with a dremel (or something like it) tool
leaving as much as possible of the outside rim there. There is usually
just enough meat there to then slip in the new speaker and screw it in place.
The 6.5" will require carefully drilled pilot holes in the rim as to not split the plastic, and then small screws are inserted to hold it in place. As I said before I use a small bead of silicone around the rim where the new speakers mounting rim will contact it......makes for a very solid, noise free mount. The grills for these speakers have a mouting post so that it can only go on one way to the rim. So you have to chew out a small area on the new speakers rim in order to let the grill post pass through when snapping it on. You can see this in one of the pictures.
The front tweeter is basically a sealed unit that just snaps in the mouting rim.......just take it out. I then used a sheet of styrene plastic of a decent
thickness and cut out a donut that would mount the new Quart tweeter
(they are nice and small) and then fitted it into the old tweeter mount.
Just remember to paint the front side black so it looks good when installed.
I used a good bead of silicone (black in color) on each side of it to hold it in place. You can kinda see this in one of the above pictures also.
The rear tweeter is about the same procedure, but the mount is slighly
different.
The small speakers in the hatch are not worth replacing in my opinion. There is really nothing short of a tweeter (and you don't need two back there) that will fit as the depth is very shallow.....like 1.4 inches or even less. I have seen people stack spacer rings and install a third speaker back there......but to me it doesn't look good and definitely not stock either.
A decent 3.5" mid may fit back there, but I don't think MB Quart offers one.
I just let the stock ones there disconnected.
For watts.......I like to put in systems that get the most out of small power,
I don't have a stereo ego. So I built a very small box that sits in the back
against the rear seats (sorry no pix, will get one) and is covered by the luggage cover. In the box is one older Soundstream A4 amp (4x25) that runs the four corners of Quarts, and one older Soundstream Angina subwoofer amp (1 x 100) that runs two JL Audio 6 inch subwoofers that
fire towards the rear hatch area.
The Quarts do just fine with the 25 watts with no volume problems at all and they are very clean. Good speakers and good amps make all the difference and will blow away crappy speakers and 100's of crappy watts.
The 6" JL subs are a fantastic, under-recognized subwoofer. The magnet and voice coil are actually from the 8" version. I have each of mine mounted in a small closed space in the box......like .5 cubic inches for each.
They are 8ohm versions wired to provide a 4 ohm load to the amp which provides 100 watts to each. Fantastic tight sounding. To me there is nothing better then a sealed enclosure for a woofer.....gives me the bass
I like.
As a source I have a one or two year old model midrange Alpine CD deck(black with minimum showy stuff) with BBE, Bass Engine, and subwoofer control. It is so adjustable that no EQ is needed in my opinion, sometimes
too adjustable.
Hope I covered everything......let me know if you have any more ???
Here is a pix of the tweeters before reinstall.....

In any case I wouldn't want to highjack this thread.
