Everything matters and some color combo's work and some don't. When mine is finished I want the FLAT black wheels and tires to match as dark as legal window tint with the red paint in between. HOT WHEELS

Even tire tread matters, I wanted this but they stopped making this pattern and I had Dunlops on the car when I bought it and put 10K+ hard miles on with zero wear and perfect directional stability.

This seems like the right time to mention...front LCA bushings are dead on nearly every car older than 1992, for sure...and that is a significant part of "dive" and rebound control on a 928.

Shocks and springs can't solve this over the counter.

Definitely not showroom fresh, but this car handled very well before all the "improvements" I am making so it will be different. Whenever I get it all done I will report my findings and see how it compares to very fuzzy memories of my 1st rides in a 928 back in 83.

Petza, these are an example of modern phone dials I considered but the companies couldn't make the offset work or wouldn't go below 19's or bolt pattern. It would also be a big gamble because you never know until you see it done.

The Koni adjustment procedure is somewhat vague. I was able to get 1 pair adjusted but the others I couldn't get it to feel right. I have been lucky to have one of the best exotic car dealerships in the country a few miles from me and they have been very helpful in my 928rehab process, so I brought the difficult pair over there to see if they had experience. They called a tech out but he had no clue. So before I left I checked out all the new cars and started a conversation with a salesmen I didn't know. Turns out he used to be the President of KONI NA. So I explained my issue and he started to mess with it on the floor between a new ROMA and a rare Speciale, We finally resolved it. (The Roma is what a 2021 928 would have been body-wise, uncanny resemblance in person)

Set halfway waiting to go on -- can't beat that look
Extraordinary looking wheel, done in black!

Not a fan of that dial version. Augment wheels makes one that looks proper and you can spec the.diameter and offset, but they're about $5k per set.

That's the Canadian company I mentioned above already. One guy in the midwest posted pics of his black car with those on the top floor of a parking structure, THEY WERE 17's and another guy posted pics of his from Australia on 18's. They didn't look right. The geometry was off, others mentioned it at the time. I looked at 10 spoke types too but the 928 doesn't look good on fragile looking wheels.

This is the pic that sold me on this wheel

Okay, I'm going to simply admit here and now that I did not until last night realize that the threaded sleeves were separate parts from the shocks themselves. I looked at the PET and just didn't understand what I was seeing; I mistook the threaded sleeve (#2) for the plastic tube (#8). I'm going to blame it on the assembly being so covered in 40 years of gunk that I couldn't see where the sleeve ended and the shock began.

Thanks for educating me.

Someone suggested buying reconditioned sleeves and nuts. But the ones I have seem like they're okay (the protective coating of oily crud seems to have kept the corrosion to a cosmetic level), so I'll try working with these first.

Also the Bilstiens come with new lower perches and adjusting collars.

Old and new Bilsteins see the yellow bump stop and white washer also the new adjuster collar. These are rear shocks

What´s very annoying with the threaded sleeves is the free turning on the shock. The bilstein have the threads on the tube and you can put force on the nut.

sleeves must be glued on the shocks.... and keep the threads/nuts clean and greased. No problem turning them. Don't forget to grease the contact spring/nut.

Guys you get what you pay for! There is a thread on here where some guy found out that REGULAR sleeves would just spin on Koni's and he had to take it apart and make a huge mess with the JBWELD product. .............................. The ones in my picture that look awesome also work awesome. They are machined perfectly to be attached once and SHRINK-FIT 4life. I don't know if it was Carl who did the measuring/engineering but IT IS IMPRESSIVE! You have to put the shocks in the Freezer for 1 hour and heat the collars for 45 minutes at 450F then carefully and quickly put the hot collar on the cold shock body. When it gets to room temp it ain't movin at all! ................. It has the most adjustablilty and nothing looks as good!

Quick Reply: Can I switch my car from OEM Boge rears to Konis without an adjustment collar?
