Default 87 auto, extended cranking before starting.

So, it takes at least 10 tries it starting before it finally catches. I did a fuel pressure test at the rail and I get 44 psi consistently prior to start and while running. It does bleed down within 10 minutes but that might be because of my fitting has a slight drip on it. Does this sound like fuel dampeners, pressure regulators, or fuel pump going bad? I don’t have the ability to troubleshoot like I normally do as All of my tools are in storage right now.

After the first start of the day it will start up with little effort. The longer it sits the more cranking it takes

Thanks

In my Audi this was a sign of a dying fuel pump. Easy enough to shoot some starting fluid into a vacuum line to see if it catches right away if given fuel.
Also note if you have tach bounce or not. Try a DME relay jumper, usual stuff.

Got a '95 GTS in, yesterday. 75,000 miles.
Same exact starting issue (as described by the owner.)
The front damper leaks so bad that the vacuum line pours out fuel when it is removed from the damper.
Didn't bother check the regulator or the rear damper.
If one leaks that badly, they are all the same age....

I did a quick test the other day.
I don't have a proper garage to work out of now so...
I jumped the FP relay and pressurized the system. It was still slow to start. After finally getting it to start it was fine the rest of the day. I was able to tell that the longer between starts the longer it took to fire off. When I get back to the car I will do vacuum checks on the reg\Damp, cold pressure test.
Then move to the FP check valve.

I need to get this car and the 89 sold. Out of room and time.
