Thank you Raphael.
I have been following along your journey and it looks like good progress is being made.

I am hoping I will finally get my heads back from the shop this week and more progress will be able to be made. (We are moving into summer where the call of the hills & rivers might slow things down a bit though).
Once I have been able to resemble the engine I will have room to move onto the rear axle assembly and do the bearings and suspension. I was hoping to refresh the auto transmission while it was out but getting hold of the appropriate parts is taking "some time".

Finally ( took 14 months) got my heads back today.
Next task is to assemble the valve train, after I find all the parts that have been lurking in my garage for quite a while.

Bonjour Myles,
I'm glad you're back on your engine! I'm waiting for my block, crankshaft and heads that are to the machinist...

Myles and Greg,
The WSM page 13-10 talk about screwing first the cap of the oil pump while assembling the block, before tightening the rest... in the sequences you described, this step is not mentioned... you did not do that?
In addition, in the WSM page 13-9, I'm surprised the way they ask to put the seals back on... You did like that? Looks better to put the seals after block assembly...

Have all a wonderful week end,
Raphaël

Raphael,
I did follow the WSM procedure that uses the oil pump to position the two parts of the block. I believe this is essential.

I took the WSM picture of the seal installation to be indicative only. I believe they omitted the cradle for the purpose of clarity.
My seals were installed after the cradle was bolted back in place.

Raphael,
Been waiting for the weather to cool down so I can get a block of time to finish assembly.
Hope to be able to get somewhere this weekend.
Still a long way to go before the car will be back on the road. Waiting on some transmission parts so I can refresh that after I have the engine back in.

Cheers
Myles
