Default Selling my 928. Help me make a perfect listing

UPDATE: It is listed on RL marketplace

https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1267200

So I have sadly come to the conclusion that I don't have time to be a responsible shark owner any more. I don't drive it like it needs to be driven. I did for 8 years use it for a daily driver and can tell you its a great car for that.
The what:
1990 928S4. 159,000 miles 50,000 miles or so on a top end rebuild (heads off, decked, new piston to replace one that was bad). Greg Brown walked me through the head install and apparently it was right because I ran it boosted for the last 35,000 miles (that supercharger is gone and on Polecat's car in Vegas. Drove my 928 out there 1200 miles put it on his car and drove mine home).

Help me come up with a price. I am thinking $30,000 to $35,000 minimum for something this nice. I'd like to offer it on Rennlist first but will put on BAT if that is a better idea.

You can (and I have many times) jump in this car and drive 1000 miles with zero worries.
What have I done to the car during my ownership of last 10 years.
  • Constantine custom drive shaft, superbearings, superclamp 7 years ago (flex plate hasn't moved)
  • Custom stainless laser cut condenser saver installed in case headlight arm comes off so it won't destroy condenser.
  • Greg Brown super damper
  • New Robb Budd steering wheel re do
  • Porkensioner (on second piston now after water pump and timing belt last year due to age not miles)
  • New shocks and springs (boge and I can't remember spring rate) done at Roger Tyson's place in Texas with Sean
  • New trans mounts last year
  • New motor mounts
  • Stud kit on oil pan, no more bolts backing out!
  • New ignition amps
  • Flappy for radiator disabled and zip tied
  • New radiator (behr factory radiator and Rob Edwards factory stickers on top)
  • Top end refresh with all new hoses, coils, caps, rotors, plugs, wires (Beru)
  • Engine out to put new head gaskets in and a new number one piston (balanced to .01g of original). Bearings were perfect at the time as I pull the caps and looked
  • Engine bay scrubbed clean at the time of removal
  • New FOE harness from Sean Ratts
  • New KUHL R134 conversion with expansion valves (front and rear). System is cold and rear air works well
  • Custom dash for double din sony xav apple car play stereo, yes i still have the analog clock
  • Custom thin film window switches
  • All tools in tool kit along with spare and pump
  • Rear hatch dynamated (except over options sticker)
  • Shark fin antenna on roof
  • Full center console rewire. All connections redone and all wires behind center console labeled with label maker. No DIY crap here. Made custom plug and play connectors for Stereo system
  • NEW PSD system from Roger (price one once and then when you stop crying be glad its done)
  • Tie downs on rear links so you can trailer it
  • Front bash guards so you won't break off your alternator
  • New alternator
  • New power steering reservoir
  • Basically every hose under the hood replaced.
  • Greg Brown did master cylinder and brake booster when PO had it.
  • Pod removed and all bulbs replaced and connections refreshed with Deoxit
  • New ignition switch when pod out
  • Ignition protection circuit bypass relay installed (from Roger).
  • Sensors for ignition system moved per Porsche specs to alternate locations and are intact.
  • Block drains have been opened when coolant drained. Changed every two years.
  • Oil analysis done by Blackstone at every oil change. Engine is in exceptional condition.
  • X pipe installed (with O2 sensor) Have factory cats.
  • New windshield
  • Euro H4 headlight conversion. You can actually see at night!
  • When car repainted new rubber seals on windows, sunroof and piping at front and rear bumper
  • New rear tail lights. Bumper modification done to allow water to drain behind them. No cracks or crazing.
  • New fog light lenses. No chips or cracks.
  • New steering rack
  • Rebuilt rear half shafts
  • Custom carbon fiber cross brace.
  • New thermostat and seals
  • New fuel damper from Roger last year (look up those prices and puke!)
  • Ground points regularly cleaned and deoxited.
  • FULL REPAINT. CAR TAKEN APART, STRIPPED, SANDED, RUB STRIP DELETE THE RIGHT WAY (BRAZE AND WELD)
  • CUSTOM FLARED REAR FENDERS TO MATCH FRONT FLARE (a weak spot of the 928 design) .........COST OVER $11,000 FOR PAINT JOB! Paint 9.5 out of 10
  • Probably more **** I am forgetting that was really expensive and I replaced because it needed it. I can get a purchase history from Roger Tyson.
What else comes with the car:
Factory cats
Porken 32vr
New, yes new, cam gears in a bag. bought them just to have them in case they went crazy in price.. Has a steel oil pump gear.
Sharktuner
Extra set of slotted wheels that were chromed by dealer in 1990 with brand new all season tires on them. Used these in winter. Yes, drove this in deep snow. Get around well.
Extra set of seats (8 way power that were original) Have leather 12 way power in there now
Extra set of brake pads for front
a vacuum pod for recirc flappy (see below)
Full set of printed and bound shop manuals. I used these to work on the car so yes they are dirty. Special printed top end refresh manual as well
Tester to test intake for vacuum leaks
Extra coolant tank because I have a custom aluminum coolant tank
Battery tender and connection hard wired to car
set of polo low profile wipers to make low profile wipers on shark (needs you to do a little creative cutting and welding on the arms)
Full maintenance records from almost day one of car ownership in 1990 with spreadsheet showing all work and dates and mileage.

Now you'll ask what is wrong. Well four things and they are very minor
  1. had remote locking installed, it has a mind of its own and probably should be replaced
  2. flappy for a/c recirc is bad, I have it but haven't installed.
  3. No smog pump. Up to you to locate one. no cats to hook to anyway.
  4. Rear hatch release doesn't work. Gave up trying to make it work. Fuse (1 amp) is blown and it was too much of a pain in the *** to try to get working so i use the key.
All work on this car was done to factory standards. A torque wrench was always used on all, yes all, bolts. I am as **** as Rob Edwards when it comes to fixing the car.

BELLY PAN TAKEN OFF FOR LOWER PHOTOS!

COVER IS OFF TO SHOW CONSTANTINE CLAMP. CAN BE SEEN IN OTHER PHOTOS

Jeff, your car looks sensational to me. And your write-up shows that you have spent a lot of time and money on it. But it all depends on the buyer market in your area. The only suggestions that I can give you are: (1) get a realistic written appraisal from somebody who knows about this kind of car, and share it with interested buyers; and, (2) the average person won't understand even half of the maintenance and improvements that you have made, so you need to try to make it more easy to absorb somehow.

Nice car, lovingly maintained.
I assume you have the flywheel \ flexplate cover? As its not shown in the pictures.
I would also detail the engine bay, as you've spent a lot of $$ there.
Depending if you decide to sell on BaT, be prepared for comments on the carbon fiber wrap on the strut brace and center console, the non OEM center vents, the stereo and also the aftermarket **** on the right of the dash.
Also as this car is black, it will be tricky to photograph especially in sunlight. It takes a photographer with some experience to really get quality shots of a black car and the lighting has to be perfect.

The cover is off to show the constantine clamp, the "button" on the dash is a magnetic phone mount double sided taped to the dash.
I have all the oem vents.

So. Do I post on BAT or Rennlist marketplace. What photos that I have posted would be best to use if Rennlist marketplace. BAT will choose their own photos. The negative nellies that don't own or won't own a 928 and just pick on cars don't bother me. The world is full of commenters with no experience or money. BAT offers a $350 professional photo shoot service. I wonder if that is worth it.

Jeff, that's too bad. You're going to miss it when it's gone. That's a steal for someone at $30k. Honestly, I bet it brings between $40-$50k on BAT - certainly would if it was a 5 speed.

GLWS.

Use BAT, IMO and observation Rennlist isn’t really a great place to try to sell a 928. You might consider consigning it to a specialty car dealership in your area (a used high end sports car specialist), they typically charge a 10% commission but they handle all aspects of marketing and selling the car - well worth the cost IMO. I would sell all of the extra goodies to Rennlist folks, the new owner probably won’t place a value on those anyway, s/he will probably just value the car itself and the extra stuff just makes the sale more complicated to explain, messy.

Clean up the dust from the engine bay. A simple wipe down to clean it and dress the rubber parts would do wonders.

Its an auto. Granted you’ve done a lot, but that usually knocks off (IDK??) $8-10K? I would think $25K, maybe up to $30K to the right buyer.

Thanks for clarifying.

BaT will not choose the photos, its up to you as the seller. In fact over the years the quality of the photos have decreased as more sellers are using their Iphones to photograph their car vs. using a good camera or a pro photographer. A great photographer will really be worth it, if you're not comfortable photographing the car yourself, $350 or a BaT photographer is a good deal.

Its a toss up between Rennlist and BaT. I was pleasantly surprised last year I sold my '87 S4 on RL for more than my ask and it sold in less than one day. On BaT, you might be surprised on the bidding as it takes off in the least 2-minutes, and you might be able to pull a higher number...its a gamble depending who's watching and bidding.

Great 928!
I also vote for a professional photographer. $350 definitely seems worth it.
But if not, here's a basic video showing some tips of how to take good/better pictures...and yes, it's of a 928!
(Note: not my video)

Beautiful car!
I would suggest posting it here with a comfortable price that you would sell this at ($25-35k) for a couple of weeks. If no bites, take more time taking pics/editing, and go for BaT. $350 from BaT may help to save time, but my taking pics myself gives me full control of the pics/setting, and not have to worry about "oh, if only he/she would take these pics this way...". Although the mods may scare off the "purist", but if you document the costs to bring this 928 up to a drive-off with no worries condition, smart car enthusiast will pay up. If you do BaT, make sure you check multiple times daily with comments/questions, and always save some tidbits in the last 48 hours to post on BaT (extra receipts, pics, etc) so that interested parties will be notified.
I would recommend a PPI by a known 928 expert/shop and skip the "appraisals" if you choose that route. Those appraisals are all made to build up the value of the car to the seller and not to the perspective buyer; I have never given the appraised value when looking at cars that came with "my appraisal by such-and-such valve this car at #value" any serious consideration. Save your money.

Don't use PCARMARKET. The more I check that site, the more I feel the bids are fake to drive up costs until the reserve is met and the real buyer ends up buying at a higher than deserved price.

GLWTS!
