Default It's time to polish .... any suggestions

Okay, I am almost finished with re-installing the front end and am excited to show off my baby. I have been using Zymol wax products in the past but saw an ad in a hi-brow mail catalog for Klasse cleaner and glaze. So I am wondering if it is as good of a product as described in the testimonials. Any suggestions on getting that great shinny look on a ivory colored 380SL? Andrew in Los Angeles

ajmarton,

I have been using both the Klasse products for years, excellent product and many show awards to back up that claim. Herrington catalogs also sells this product.

I am ready for my first real wax application myself and I read a lot of good things about Zaino wax.

I read a post on the concourse board that was pretty positive and then I did a search on the internet about the company. From what I read Zaino has built a pretty good reputation for itself. People seem to love the look they get from using it.

Anybody here use it?

Cool A happy Zaino user.

Moon,

I use Zaino on my '89, which is also Silver Metallic. Before Zaino, I had used both Klasse and Zymol (love the smell and get a kick out of rubbing it onto the car...) and found that the finish I received though good, wasn't quite cutting it.

Zaino gives my car a much, much more reflective surface that is very noticable compared to other products. I use their Z2 polish (for light cars) and then top it with their Gloss Enhancer. You have to use a very small amount of the polish (about a dime size drop will cover your entire hood). You can layer the polish for more protection and reflectivity.

I would definitely say that for a silver car, it really makes a difference. Good luck!

Rob,

Your car looks awesome. I plan on ordering it this week. I may use the clay bar and strip it bare before using the wax.

Our interiors look the same as well. I need help on my drivers seat but everything else is pretty clean.

What are you using on your rims? I have water spots on mine that Mothers polish is not getting out. They look good from 10 ft but anything closer and they look dirty.

Hello Rob,

Car looks great.

Do you wear your bra all the time?

I have a new bra, but was only planning to use it on highway trips.

On previous cars in the past, I found that there was a definite risk of un-even paint fading and light paint surface abrasion from the continued use of the bra.

Have you had any similar issues? Are you hiding some scars?

Best regards,
Mike

Moon & Mike,

Thanks for the compliments.

For my wheels, I use a product called Master Formula. I first saw it at one of the "Good Guys" car show. A guy was demonstrating it on the bottom of aluminum cans and it made them look like mirrors. I have their polish and sealer. I also had some water spots on them, but was able to get them out when putting the polish on using a Porter Cable random orbital polisher and a terry cloth applicator. After that, I used a microfiber applicator for the removal of the polish. I used the sealer after that. The sealer keeps it looking better longer and now I usually just wipe them off once a week with a California Duster (I have 3 of them, 1 for wheels, 1 for the exterior and the other for inside).

The bra is hiding some scars. When I purchased the car, it had a multitude of rock chips in the nose that had caused the clear coat to delaminate. I figured that since I work on painting scale models (my other hobby), this would be just like painting one of them, only larger.

The front is splotchy from primer and sanding and everytime I want to put aside some time to finish it... something else comes up that is more important, like the brakes or the ride height.

I am very good about taking the bra off when it rains and keeping it spotless underneath. I vacuum it regularly and the car even took a First Place in it's category at last years PCA Concours at the Blackhawk Car Museum. The judges asked me to remove it and I told them that it was covering up some problems... They said I could either take the problem deductions or the deductions that go with having a bra on the car and I said let's go for the last one.

Besides, I actually like the look of the car with it on. I just finished putting on the clear turn signal lenses that Joakim is selling, so I will get a picture of that and post it. They look sharp, especially on a silver car.

Where are you getting Klasse and Zaino products? How about the wheel polish. I am currently using Zymol and find it to be a poorer product that I remember from 10 years ago.

Thanks

fst951,

I can usually find Klasse at some of the autocare places local to me. Zaino, for now is strictly an internet only affair (unless you know a distributor). I purchased my wheel polish and sealant from the vendor at an auto show, but they (Master Formula) is also available on the web.

There is another product that works equally well for wheels and that is called "WheelWax". It's like a sealer and it keeps the polished wheels looking good and tarnish free for a good long time. Brake dust just wipes right off.

After using most products(Zymol, Klasse, Malm's to name a few) I tried Zaino and was very pleased with the results. Check the concours forum for more input.
