I use studs to mount the throttle wheel assembly. Much easier to position the assembly.
I use a stud were the FOE attaches to the front cross member. Hate fighting the harness and getting the bolt in the bolt hole at the same time. This way can actually hang the harness on the stud.
I use a stud were the FOE attaches to the block as it passes through the DS timing belt cover. Much easier.
I also use a threaded stud on the back of the PS head to attach the injection harness support. Typically I add this while the engine is out.
I do this because as I slowly lose the battle with arthritis in my thumbs I need better solutions so I can continue to enjoy playing with cars.
Good on you Kevin.
The only thing in life that is constant, is change!
My first few 928s I kept religiously to 'Stuttgart Standard' but with my current one I'm changing lots of things, just to see what it will be like.
My favorite "bolt to stud" conversion is at the passenger lifting hook, where the clamp for the 14 pin loom and the ground strap to the coil attach.
Getting those pieces to line up and getting the clamp to compress enough to start the bolt, in that.difficult to access area, requires divine intervention, without a stud.
Second best, as Kevin mentions, is where the 14 pin loom attaches with a clamp, as it exits the driver's side belt cover.
When I ship a replacement 14 pin harness, I include new clamps, studs, washers, and nuts for these locations.

Wow, I was fighting the PS lifting hook a couple of hours ago and was thinking the same thing. Timing....
Hmm I like the way you guys think. Another advantage is you don't have to worry about wearing down aluminum threads since the stud can just stay in place.
Well, I think I found another place to substitute a stud..
And don't forget to include those oil pan bolts on your list.
I know you use studs on every oil pan you do these days.
Old guys gotta do whatever we can to keep on wrenchin.

Yep. Also, substituted them for the M6 bolts that hold down the S3 fuel rails like the S4's.
